The fix was in. Provodnikov didn't cross over after beating Alvarado so he's expendable. Algieri has an all American look. Don King couldn't have orchestrated this any better. This win means interesting possible fights for TR. HBO is desperate for an American star at this point.Comment

My 3 cents
$0.01 - Algieri deserved the win. He showed heart and determination while boxing well. He will be a hard one to beat for most in that division. I can only see him losing to a couple guys in fights that would likely be close.
$0.02 - Is Provodnikov is not hyped. He is what we thought he was despite this loss. He is a come forward warrior who just want's to fight but is not the most skilled. As we already knew. No big surprise that he lost a decesion to a boxer who moves a lot. I'm still willing to watch him fight though, he will be in exciting fights with 80% of the people he steps in the ring with so I'm still amped up about him.
$0.03 - This fight is a perfect example of why you should never let commentators or ringside unofficial judges scorecards effect how you perceive a fight. Iv'e been watching this sport too long for that sht. I was sitting and awaiting hearing that exact decision after the fight and was shaking my head at the unofficial judges scorecard. Knockdowns and swollen eyes don't dictate who wins a boxing match. This isn't a street fight for a girl, it's a sport and there are rules and guidelines. One of those rules are that a fight is scored round by round. The judges did a great job tonight of making the "right" decision despite what casual onlookers may feel. More decisions like this can restore our faith in the judging system as I feel too many times the bigger name gets a win based on his promoter and fighters records are tainted because of that coughdannycoughgarciacoughComment

Next bandwagon. And they think Marquez is ducking this. Fights Pac, Floyd, and Barrera but scared of this.Comment

I see him being big in Brooklyn. Put him, Judah, Malignaggi, or that other 168 guy I can't remember on the card and watch it sell out. Chris might not be a world wide seller but if he can sell out a major venue or come close to it, that's good enough.Comment

Watching the Herrera fight on ESPN a couple years back, I knew tonight would be a tough one for Provo, just so Algieri came to fight and not lay down. And that's what happened. After watching Provo for X years on ESPN type fights, I actually thought it odd that basically a low skilled pressure fighter with little boxing skills would get as far as he did. This is BOXING after all, not a rock em sock em robots tough man competition. IOW Provo vs Rios would be way fun and much more appropriate for him.
Algieri has one limit now: The sky. If he keeps improving with his excellent boxing skills and physical gifts, he could actually hold the belt for a while. He has a good attitude, works his butt off, wasn't intimidated, and did what he had to do to win. VERY impressed with the guy.Comment

He clearly just has a job only for one reason... I'll give you a hint...they guy who runs HBO boxing who was a disaster at Showtime has his job for the same reason...Comment
