Comments Thread For: Cotto Ready For The Best Possible Option in December

Miguel Cotto (39-4, 32KOs), the brand new WBC world champion at middleweight, has no idea who he'll face at the end of the year. Last Saturday night at New York's Madison Square Garden, Cotto demolished Sergio Martinez in ten rounds to capture the WBC crown.

Top Rank wants to bring Cotto back on December 6 or 13th, at Madison Square Garden or a venue in Las Vegas. Cotto's mandatory challenger at middleweight is Marco Antonio Rubio, but there are far more lucrative options at junior middleweight - like Saul "Canelo" Alvarez and Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Canelo would make the most since if it's gonna be in December, but it sounds like arum wants to milk cotto at least once before fighting canelo.. I can see Rubio fight happening as a stay busy fight for cotto and have the canelo fight next May or june

I don't think Rubio can be overlooked as a stay busy fight. I think he has a very good shot at dethroning Miguel Cotto.

I'm hoping it's any of these guys: Floyd, Canelo, Golovkin

Wouldn't mind seeing a rematch with Trout. If Cotto believes he can KO Floyd under Roach's training then surely Trout would be easy work, right? Let's see.

Yes, he would be a live underdog, and if cotto isn't careful, Rubio could pull off the upset, but I still think cotto should be able to outbox him and beat up Rubio..
Rubio is a decent fighter, but cotto is higher caliber

What can a trout victory do for cotto now? Makes no sense to fight him. I hope it's either GGG, Floyd or the winner of canelo-Lara, which I think will be Lara.

For some reason I have a sinking feeling it'll be Andy Lee in a stay busy fight.

There is no way cotto picks canelo or floyd next or GGG too tough of a fight i think team cotto wants a easy win to pro long his time on top at 160 i could be wrong but if i am cotto looses to canelo floyd an ggg so cotto fans pray im right!

Probably Rubio. Maybe Canelo if he beats Lara. Definitely not GGG. He's working with Top Rank for his next fight so bo Floyd either.
