vargas was just too young. sick fighter that may have fared better had he waited to take on vargas like a year or two later.

Nothing. He fought a pretty spot on fight. He was just not as good as Trinidad

              Post, discuss, and elaborate.
Basically his chin was not good enough to compensate for his lack of defense. A flat footed fighter without head movement is going to get hit. Also age was a big factor. Vargas was 22 (I think) going against an outstanding HOF fighter in his prime at age 27.

This is personally one of my all time favorite fights. But in truth, Fernando chose to stand in front of Tito and trade and the end result was a recipe for disaster.

Couple this with the fact I think he underestimated Trinidad in coming up in weight thinking he could bully Tito into submission only for Fernando to be beaten into oblivion.

Trinidad was just better. More powerful, more experienced.

Vargas was boxing well, he dropped Tito in round 4 and was outboxing him, but Tito got to him.

Vargas wasn't really trying to war with Tito in rounds 6, 7, and 8, but he was still getting hit with hard shots.

I haven't seen that fight in eons. I remember Vargas' body looking like he had a lackluster camp but managing to hang in there and then eking it out of the last couple rounds. Maybe Winky won. A lot of people whose opinion I respect feel he did so I might need to watch again.
