I didn't think Martinez was shot before the fight... if I did, I wouldn't of bet on him... pretty easy concept to grasp, really.

After watching the fight, I realized I was wrong, and he was much farther gone than I originally predicted.

Martinez was pretty clearly shot in the fight. Any top 10 middleweight or junior middleweight could have beaten that version of Martinez. That version of Martinez loses to every top fighter Martinez ever faced.

The problem is we will never know what a Sergio Martinez a couple of years ago would have looked like against the Cotto who fought him Saturday Night. All I can say is that left hook to the head and body that was landing for Cotto on Saturday night would have landed constantly on Sergio at any point in his career. Martinez never ever had defense. if you cant respect Cotto for this win then at least acknowledge his extensive resume; Cotto fights everybody and mostly wins. Whether you think Martinez looked garbage or not there's no denying Cotto is a warrior.

It's ridiculous... Martinez used to have incredibly quick and effective lateral and head movement, and good footwork. He also had much better reflexes.

To say that Martinez at 34 couldn't move, bob, weave, bounce in or out any faster than he could at 39, and that by being able to move much better wouldn't help him defend is ridiculous.

Martinez is one of my favorite fighters of the last 10 years. He definitely has lost a step in the last 2 -3 years, but he was always hittable and never granite chinned.

I think if this Cotto is in the ring with prime Martinez, he can definitely hit and hurt Martinez. Prime Martinez could use his movement to set up his offense better though and not let cotto do whatever he wishes.
