Comments Thread For: Mares Managerial Status Likely To Land in Arbitration

Sources with knowledge of the details have advised BoxingScene.com that an arbitration proceeding, in Los Angeles, is a likely scenario to sort out the managerial contract of former three division world champion Abner Mares.

The Mexican Olympian recently stated that his contract with longtime manager Frank Espinoza had expired and he planned to explore his managerial options. Since the start of the year, there have been heavy rumblings that Mares was making a move to adviser/manager Al Haymon.

Abner is a traitor. With Oscar he has the opportunity for fights with nonito and garcia. Fights that matter. And mares is pulling this $hi+. Oscar has always had this kids back and he's gonna roll with haymon. Wow

They're arguing that he turned down fights just so he could wait out his managerial contract?

Man....if you want to sign up with Haymon, finish up what you have then leave at the very least

Mares is out for whats best for him and his family. If going the Haymon route makes the best business sense for him, then hes going to want to sign with Haymon. He has a family and he wants to maximize his earnings to help his family for the rest of his life. Neither Espinoza nor De La Hoya will give Mares one cent when he's no longer able to fight for them.

I understand what you are saying but what fights that haymon could offer him get him paid more than fights with donaire or Mike garcia those are the biggest fights for abner. He could continue getting paid big with his team that his always had and make a name for himself in the sport. Boxing is a sport as well.

Seems Schaefer brainwashed these guys into signing up with Haymon, which is utterly ****** when Showtime is the only outlet that's available for them. Oscar can both work with HBO and SHO.

Yea, we'll see if what he did was best for him and his family after they start fighting and Mares is sitting on even more ice, making no money and letting his family starve. He already sat a year off, now he's going to sit even longer trying to screw Espinoza over

****** move by Abner Mares, if in fact these allegations are true. He has every right to chose a different manager***8230;once his contract expires. Til' then, he has the absolute obligation, both legal and "moral," if you will, to live out his contract and perform according to its terms. This gamesmanship of claiming injury to wait out the contract speaks incredibly bad of him, again, assuming it is true. Not to mention the fact that, as others here have pointed out, Al Haymon can't offer him better fights than ODH/TR working together.
