How is that not holding it hostage? Canelo had never fought at 160 and his first fight at 160 to be for the lineal title?

That's holding it hostage when you have a 160lb champ ready to unify and no network/promotional barriers to block the fight IMO

I think and hope he fights Alvarez instead of Mayweather. At least with the ginger there's a chance for fights going forward. It's not like Alvarez is leaving middleweight once he's there.

It will be horrible if Cotto fights Mayweather or Pacquiao. Just the absolute worst case scenario. Imagine Mayweather beating Cotto and holding titles at 147, 154, and 160, and then fighting Pacquiao at some ****** ass weight with all three titles on the line as his last fight, Leonard style.

        Exactly.

the lineal championship needs to be defended against GGG ASAP. It would be in good hands and we won't see any cherry picking and the most deserving challengers at 160 will fight him IMO

Or will Cotto take the best possible fight for boxing and boxing fans and unify with Golovkin in December?

I have a feeling HBO will throw him a large amount of money and we will see a unification bout. Cotto is a warrior, Golovkin wants to unify, I Think Cotto goes for it.

          Anyone else?
If he chooses to unify with QUillin is that ok?

Really depends on who he defends it against. Canelo probably next...GGG possible because HBO would really get behind that

Yeah Canelo would be better then Floyd for the fans sake but I don't think Canelo deserves that. If he moves up to 160 after Lara and gets a win or two, Cotto can fight Golovkin in December and the winner can defend against Canelo next year

                Yes. That's okay

I just hope the winner would be willing to face Golovkin since he has looked better then Quillin and fought better opponents IMO (Geale and Macklin)

Everybody seems to be thinking Canelo.

I'm optimistic for the latter. Both guys are on HBO. HBO loves Golovkin.... It's hard to see HBO not throwing down big money to make that fight happen.

We've already lost Adonis-Kovalev unification. We need Cotto-Golovkin!

It lies somewhere in between. "Holding it hostage" implies Cotto is going to take the easy route. Fighting a fringe jmw or an unranked middle would be holding the title hostage.

Canelo would be a very tough fight for Cotto so I dont see it as much of an easy/hostage situation. I'd like Cotto to fight GGG as well but since they are both tough fights I cant blame Cotto for going with a bigger fight if he chooses to do so. it doesnt mean he cant fight GGG if he beats cinnabon

If he wants a legacy fight, Golovkin is #1 on the list of the greatness/legacy added to Cottos career with a potential win
obviously Golovkin would be great for legacy but I'm pretty sure that fight is there for Mayweather too if he wants it that bad but we all know that ain't happening ...#Healthcomesfirst
