You can't be serious. Freddie Roach even gambles and has said this much publicly. It's just that no one pays it any attention.

Floyd, or anyone for that matter, isn't obligated to move up or down. But if Cotto can be slick and get belt the easy way, so can Floyd I guess. The thing is, if you decide to move up, like Cotto did, I would expect you to defend said title like the champion you claim to be. If not, vacate and admit you saw prime picking, took advantage, and held a belt simply for posterity. You guys are making it seem like Cotto's staying in middleweight and willing to fight the likes of GGG, etc. Lastly, I don't understand you guys. Floyd already beat the breaks off Cotto. No need to bash him as he's clearly superior than the fighter you worship.

The only other guy I can think of would be Danny Garcia - which would also be the easier fight

Danny Garcia is a flop waiting to happen. Cotto, Maidana, Thurman and Provodnikov are Mayweather's only real options in Sept. UNLESS he moves the fight to November and fights Amir Khan. Then you could get Froch vs. Chavez, Jr. On Sept. 13th

Why does Roach think a second fight would produce a different result? If he believes that Floyd has aged since Cotto-Mayweather, then what he's really saying is not "I think Cotto is a better fighter" but rather "I think Floyd is now way past his prime." That's sort of an insult to Cotto.

I like Cotto. He's a great fighter and he was very smart for taking a calculated risk in fighting Sergio Martinez at what proved to be the right time. But I think it's incredibly telling that Cotto's team isn't talking up fights with the best middleweights or top fighters who could come down a weight division from 168, like Golovkin.

Heck, Bernard Hopkins says he can make 160 if given time. If he becomes lineal champion at light heavyweight, maybe he should go back down and fight Miguel Cotto to become the middleweight champion once again. That sounds crazy, but it's really no more absurd than becoming lineal middleweight champ and immediately calling out a 147 pounder.
Dealing with Floyd straight up won't cut it...Floyd is a cherry-picker and the only way to entice him to fight aside from dangling a really "beatable" fighter for him to bite is to challenge his status and machismo.

I think that Freddie Roach knows this strategy...

IF he has confidence that he can beat Cotto. He could say "been there, done that". But Cotto got himself something new worth fighting for. It's not about beating Cotto as much as beating Miguel for what he has (Which is the WBC Belt at a weight Floyd never won a Title at).
If he fights Cotto and wins the MW title then he'll be accused ducking everyone from 160-175 then you're talking about significantly larger men. Makes no sense. Cotto's next fight should be Canelo/Lara winner or GGG or both over the next year.

Freddie's Assessment Of Floyd Is Spot On; Floyd Will Have A Story

He's right. Floyd got beat up time with Cotto last time. Floyd still won't fight Manny. Mayweather can act all cool, talk like he's a business man, talk about the numbers, but at the end of the day, there's no way in hell Floyd fights Manny, Cotto again, or even Shawn Porter who would put serious pressure on Floyd. Floyd doesn't want to fight Maidana again. He'll never fight Thurman. He's clearly trying to find the safest routes to a manufactured 49-0. He would love to fight a worthless Khan, he'd love to fight Alexander, or even a Tim Bradley. Floyd wants no part of the divisions best.
