Cotto does have good and deceptive power in the heavier weight classes (for him, he's a small fighter). I remember how he dropped Mayorga. He may punch harder when he's carrying more weight. But he never once dazed Floyd, who appeared shook up by Maidana and Ortiz at times. Sergio's been taking shots from much larger punchers. He stood up to Pavlik. I think that says enough about his ability to take a shot. Don't think Cotto hits harder than Pavlik or Williams.

I'm pretty sure Miguel Cotto hits harder than Paul Williams.

Matthew macklin is a nobody, darren barker is a nobody, Serhiy Dzinziruk is a nobody, Paul Williams was a good fighter but he did lose to carlos quintana, and they would have fought a 3rd time but williams got into that accident. Erislandy Lara got robbed in that Pwilliams fight. He couldn't even beat kermit cintron convincingly, and as a puertorican I can tell you cintron is ass. Other than those fighters, he has fought plenty of bums in spain and argentina to pad up that record. There is no way Cotto would have ever beaten Pavlik or even Chavez Jr. Listen, Cotto can box but he is just too small for the higher weights and has nothing to do with how good he is. Couldn't word it better myself most of what you point out (don't agree with the Floyd analogy lol) mostly because I post from my phone and I don't want to sit here typing for that long lol. People fail to understand cotto early in his career was trained by his uncle who guided him to 31-0. After he had a nasty dispute with him, they split and you'll think he's paying hot potato with trainers because he never keeps/feels comfortable with any. People keep talking about what Cotto can do but are not acknowledging that Martinez knocks fighters out and hurts them who are bigger and durable. Even Murray said Martinez hurt him but he didn't show it and he's a big strong guy. Not to mention Roach does not teach defensive strategies combined with Citto's already lack of a solid defensive game. Martinez has one punch KO power. Cotto don't and Martinez adjusts better than Cotto does mid fight and doesn't get discouraged like Cotto if the tough gets going. I can't wait for this fight.

Guys overrate skills, especially when it comes to their favorite fighter. If skills were all it took, Floyd would be fighting Kovalev, Rigo would be fighting Danny Garcia, etc. Skills and individuals have their limits. Cotto's best weight was 147. It's not like he was tearing-up 154 and everyone wanted to see what he'd do at 160. It looks to me like Miguel topped out at junior middleweight. Did he beat Mayweather? Did he even come close? Now I'm supposed to believe Cotto beats the lineal middleweight champion of the world? And it's not like Martinez is some unskilled plodder. He's fast, he's slick and he has good power. I don't see this ending well for Miguel.
