Roy Jones...Not the smartest man alive..

Not a great story, but a well-told story. You've got a good attitude about this, man. While I agree Roy might've been having a bad day and all, I wouldn't necessarily give him a pass. To paraphrase Yankee legend Joe DiMaggio, "You always have to play your best, because someone might be seeing you for the first time." That's what being a celebrity is like. There are no days off. Besides, the way you described the scene (which I tend to believe is accurate, from the way you sound) Jones could've been a little cooler, and certainly more accommodating. What would that second picture have taken? Five, ten seconds? Yet, as you pointed out, a fan carries that moment with them forever...for good or bad.Nothing too crazy...
I always admired Roy Jones. I owned a DVD of his greatest hits. I always watched his highlights on YouTube. As a young boxer, he was always someone that I looked up to.
I had the opportunity to meet him in New York back in 2010 before the Cotto-Foreman fight. Just the thought that I could get picture with him made my whole day. My friend and I asked him how he was doing...he didn't respond...stood there for an awkward second...asked again....and he responded with "you guys want a picture or what?" ...whatever....My friend went first, and I took the picture. Then when it was my turn, he said, "I gotta get going" & he walked away before I could get a picture...
I understand he must have been busy, but I wish he understood that he could have made my day just by simply taking a picture with me. He couldn't wait one more second? And his tone just came off as very rude from the beginning....it was just disappointing to me, being someone that always admired him.
He must be used to to people coming up to him all the time, and sometimes you're probably just not in the mood....I understand that. That's why I don't hate him or anything like that, but I'd be lying if I said my opinion didn't change about him after that day.Comment

And yeah, it sucks when they have a boxer color-commentator that fits the dopey stereotype like a glove. Roy not only offers no insight, but he embarrasses himself (and us) regularly. Paulie is much better, although I've never been a fan of him still being an active fighter for some reason. I guess it reminds me too much of the player/manager thing in baseball. lolComment

If you do just about anything enough times it gets tiresome. I wouldnt be hurt by it. Roy is human too, as are all heros. Some are just better at hiding it.Comment

I had a totally different experience with RJJ..he was real cool, posed for pics..and even chatted..maybe you and your friend made him feel awkward..you just have to be upfront with them, and save the small talk for later!Comment
