You see gifs of Calzaghe's performance in that fight, but Hopkins was also pathetic. It was a pretty forgettable fight that TBH I never watched again after watching it live on HBO, and I don't think I could ever get myself to rewatch it. Hopkins vs Pavlik was a great performance and I would not trade that to see Hopkins flopping all over the ring in exhaustion again vs Calzaghe, looking every bit of 44 years old.
People weren't interested in seeing the rematch for it's entertainment value.

Hopkins vs. Calzaghe is one of the most controversial fights of the modern age.

Hope this isn't a hard to digest concept.

Froch pass Calzaghe in terms of his legacy two years ago when he fought Andre Ward. Calzaghe chose to retire instead of facing fighters as good as Ward and Chavez Jr.

We all know how big that fight got don't we. A fight between Froch and Calzaghe would have been way bigger than any Taylor fight that's for damn sure.
Very well stated. We can see right there the difference between Joe and Carl as men and as professionals.

Calzaghe made 10m from the Jones fight which was on HBO PPV. He had already made his decision to retire after the Kessler fight because of constant hand injuries etc. For him to want to come back, he'd need a huge incentive.

Fighting Froch in what would have been a domestic fight or Hopkins in a rematch of a horrendous first fight or Chad "I have 4 fans" Dawson were not those incentives.

Fighting Froch NOW might be very lucrative to him but not back then.
Cementing his legacy is what should have been his motivation.

Calzaghe left more questions unanswered than answered with his retirement. Why can't folks realise he retired at a time when there were legitimate threats waiting?

Calzaghe sounds bitter. Just enjoy your retirement Joe.

Joe always has time to pour some haterade on Froch.

The real world? Ok, here's the "real world," son. Money had absolutely nothing to do with Calzaghe's retirement. He repeatedly said so. REPEATEDLY.

"I know I would never fight again, not for any amount of money."

And you're trying to use this as the basis for some argument.
