Is there a cool way to quit? A warrior way to quit? What is the legit way to quit?

    Stool?

    Knee?

    Mid-round/back-turning "save me ref!"
who are we to decide were not ones putting our life on the line its easy for us to yell sissy, quitter etc but honestly its up to the fighter

Quitting or knowing when you have had enough is something in boxing that is frowned upon, especially by certain nationalities of fighters.

Mexicans are known to be tough in the ring, and have a never say die attitude. Of course there's been Mexicans who have "quit" in a fight. Oscar didn't come out for Pac, neither did Morales. Chavez had enough against Oscar and there's been others.

It's easy for fans to call fighters "quitters" I try and not do that. Taking a knee though is a bad one, I don't think Cotto is any less of a man for taking a knee, but submitting yourself to another man in that position does leave an impression in your mind.

Another man standing over you, as you take a knee to submit yourself to him is tough to do and even witness. Saying that, I do think that a fighters responsibility is to fight, the ref, corner and doctor are the one's who need to stop the fight if they think their fighter has had enough.

When a fighter like JMM or Marg says they are willing to die in the ring, I believe them and they have showed it to be true. Some may think it's just macho bull**** but in reality you have to have that attitude to excel in the ring.

The reason Ortiz was killed over what he did. Some may say he was saving his career and possibly life, but where is Ortiz now? He's gone from boxing, his heart is gone and he's the laughing stock of fans.

To quit or not to quit is the question and true warriors leave it to the people who are responsible for their health to do that for them.
i agree but dont we give him any slack i mean he prob had plaster and he lasted as long as he did

A quit is a quit and a quiter is a quiter period. It's hilarious how u fan boys don't like a fighter (Ortiz) and what he did was unacceptable but Cotto was done so his quit was ok! Really?
End of the day it's boxing not chess.
The fighters know what they are getting into so go out on your shield or backpedal and try to box until the end.
A boxer getting a pass for quitting because he has taken too much punishment is like a stripper getting a pass for quoting because se is tired of men grabbing her. It comes with the territory
Either deal with it or find a new profession!

As far as Ortiz I respect him for his post fight interview. He spoke the truth and kept it real! What he should have done was find a new profession.

How many on here quit college or didn't even bother going because they didn't like school? Do u ride yourself and talk ish because you quit?

              Quitting happens.

Vitali Klitschko quit from an injury against Chris Byrd and I remember people at the time calling him a coward and quitter.

It all just depends on how people see it.
Well said...Morales clearly shook his head at his corner as if to say "I want no more" but it is rare you will hear someone say he is a quitter...Whereas someone like Cotto taking a knee vs Margarito is often mentioned in a negative way...Like you say, it depends how certain people look at it...

Ortiz against Maidana or the typical Tor Hamer fight are unacceptable quitting, where a fighter clearly could have kept going but chose not to.
Go for broke. You got this far to get blown out, might as well go as hard as you can for a KO in 1 round.

therefore, I can not expect to see much in the way of actual intelligence in any of your hater comments. You people, for the most part, have not the balls to ever step in to fight yet you have the balls to call our fighters *******, cowards and quiters.

I would rather be a quitter who fought hard but could see the end results written in stone rather than some ***** assed no fight loud talking mfer.

98% of you are ****ing clueless as to what a fighter deals with in training, in fights or even the years after a fighter is finished in the game. Clueless!

save your quitter comments for the mlb and nfl players who make multi millions per year who sit out games because of a jammed finger or stubbed toe.

leave the warriors alone with this bull****.
Well said. Lots of keyboard warriors here who like to sound tough. Especially Mexicans who act like their mothers were ****d by a Puerto Rican. I know there is a rivalry between your two countries but some of you guys just take it really far and personally.

It is ignorant to judge a fighter on whether he quit or not.

Duran, Chavez Sr and De la Hoya did all quit.

These guys are professional prize fighters and are supposed to offer high level entertainment, nobody wants to see a fighter walk away after the first punch, that is part of their profession , that much is obvious.

On the other hand nobody is entitled to judge a fighter based on whether they did quit or not in a single occasion. Needless to say that if a guy keeps on quitting their own trainers will suggest a different carreer.

Do I respect a guy like Jake la Motta for taking all that damage without accepting defeat?. Absolutely.

Would I think any less of him if in his sixth fight with SRR he decided to take a knee instead of standing against the ropes getting punished until the referee stepped in?. Absolutely not.
