Those are very high numbers for a US city. As I'm sure you know boxing is not nearly as popular stateside. Gatti vs. Ward I sold just more than 6,200 tickets. Froch enjoys significantly greater interest as a boxer in the UK than Ward does as a boxer in the US. It's an absurd comparison.
You think boxing is a mainstream sport here?

I clearly said it was "more popular" if I may paraphrase myself.

I'll take that as a non response.

        You'd still be wrong.

After we see Froch this weekend we'll know more of where he is now, but with his history, I doubt he beats Ward. Still, it would be a great retirement fight for Froch... lotta moolah, and having sold out Wembley vs Groves, Froch would probably have no trouble doing the same with Ward, if it's promoted right. Haveta find the right angle to push it. Grudge match, whatever. It would actually be interesting to see how Ward does on a huge stage with an event like that.
Thing is, if you hold Froch v Ward (or Froch v Hopkins) you get a fight that's not very entertaining and the public won't be interested in coming back.

You also increase the risk of the star man (or the draw) losing in a boring fight, which hurts the product.

Why do that when you can make Froch v DeGale (a UK name) or Froch v Kessler III?

As far as it goes, if he wins, Froch has said he wants to fight Chavez Jr. or Golovkin in Las Vegas.

How anyone can be an Andre Ward fan is mind-boggling to me...he's everything that's wrong with boxing...

Ward has a boring style where he basically uses illegal clinching to win fights...hit and hold style...he has way too many diva ways about him...he needs all his demands met to take a fight..hardly leaves Cali...made Froch fight him with a few K in the audience at the fight in A.C. rather than fighting in the U.K. in front of 50K. He wouldn't fight Kessler in Denmark...he won't move up to 175 to fight Kovalev drained Dawson to make 168...fought 2 times in the last 3 years because he won't live up to his contract..and then had the nerve to ask for more money to fight overseas which is basically the oldest excuse to avoid fights...price yourself out...Ward is part of a cancer in boxing like Floyd...

I wouldn't be shocked if Ward starts demanding his opponents wear pillows for gloves...we know how suspect his chin is from his early fights...

Some fans just like him because he's "undefeated." Those fans are obviously not sophisticated boxing fans because, they'd know that being undefeated has never meant anything in the history of boxing other than you probably haven't taken on challenges that you should have..

I respect Andre Ward, he is the best active american boxer in my eyes, but he should learn from Sergio Matinez, he should take his fight with Cotto as an example to follow, Martinez is the champion, the bigger name in the books of boxing, the man with bigger achievement, has the exciting boxing style, still goes for the money, accept the b*tchy terms of divas like Chavez jr. or Cotto !
It'll be easier for Ward, because he's american, he just needs to take the first step and give up some of the american champion's pride.

Way to DUCK every point I made and try and change the subject.

                Weasel ****.

If you think Gatti and Ward were UK fighters and they held the match on UK soil and it would only bring 6,200 fans you need a lobotomy.

ward only has his legions of african american followers which are about 100, he needs to get to the streets like floyd and spread ******ed propaganda like floyd did to make himself seem the best when he actually is all talk
I am not a black man and I also live about 3000 from California and I consider myself to be a Ward fan.

You may have had a point if Ward hadn't taken on the top 168 pounders and also beat what was supposed to be the best light heavyweight in the world. But since he has your point is...well, you don't honestly have one.
