I am not sure what role Haymon has in their contracts, but if it is strictly a managerial contract, a fighter can fire him. Andre Dirrell did a year or two ago.
And his career has flourished since then.

Besides, Haymon cannot form a promotional company unless he relinquishes his role as a manager to the fighters. That is why there is the Muhammad Ali act in place which kind brings up a concern whether Haymon has indeed been doing underground promoting if it is true that most of his fighters are not signed to Golden Boy. That would be very bad for him once the powers that be gets involved.
Al Haymon is not a manager so he doesn't have to relinquish anything. He doesn't even have a managers license. His title is an "advisor". The work that he does though is almost borderline violating the Ali act but since he's not a manager or promoter he can't be held accountable

It's not just the $6 million -- I'm not sure exactly where that figure comes from, but people have been using it -- it's the process of creating an actual company with divisions and employees and the logistics of putting on a fight card that is a disincentive for Floyd. Right now, he can just funnel money to himself through Mayweather Promotions, LLC, complete with business tax breaks, etc. But operating a real business involves much more risk and investment than Floyd has been willing to commit.

Now, if he wants to hand the reigns over to Schaefer and Haymon, maybe Mayweather Promotions will become a real thing and maybe that's where all those fighters go. But it is far from a straightforward or simple process.

That's the problem. He's willing to spend so much money on ********, but not on the promotion business. He seems to have a hard time deciding whether to go full-pledge or not. He also has trust issues. Can you imagine this guy trusting Schafer running his company, especially if he throws some of his millions in it? Mayweather will be Schaefer's worst nightmare.

No, I don't think Haymon and Schaefer will ever make Mayweather a partner in their business when he retires.

Oscar should come out and say GB and Showtime is on board with a Floyd Manny mega fight and put Mayweather on the spot. I bet Floyd hides behind al Haymon like the b1tcf he is. So pathetic that the number 1 fighter in the world is scared of the lil asian. Lol even after he got ktfo by JMM 2.0.

Al Haymon= Another middle man who has managed to get a piece of boxers' pie. He pushes free agency, but doesn't always get them the money they deserve. Do boxers really need him?

Richard Schaefer= An opportunist who took GBP in the direction he wanted while Oscar was down, much to the detriment of boxing. A cold war? Really?

Floyd Mayweather, JR= A great boxer near the end of his career, who for selfish reasons managed to leave HBO and lead a slew of fighters to follow him to Showtime. He helped fuel the cold war. WTF?

Oscar De La Hoya= a former great boxer with a vision to create a promotional company that helps arrange the greatest fights that fans want to see. Personal problems hindered him though, and others took advantage. Can he get himself together, clean house and rekindle his vision?

Stay tuned fight fans, as these and many more questions are answered on... WTF IS HAPPENING TO BOXING???

I wonder who is the lucky guy that will replace Schaefer.

Doesn't matter who. Fighters will always be the stars of the show, not the promoter, manager, trainers, network. I wasn't thinking of Haymon/Schaefer/Showtime when Maidana vs Broner were in the ring trying to kill each other. HBO could have covered it with different promoters and fans won't give a hoot. The fight was a huge hit. There will be many more of these fights that are waiting to be negotiated with relative ease with or without Schaefer.
