Its because Boxing is a pathetic joke of a sport...
Just look at the rankings, match making, etc...
The titles are a joke, rankings are even worse...
Try explaining the champs to a casual fan.. Mw champ is ggg, but also serg, and also sturm, and there is also quillen... Why dont they fight each other,, oh because they have politics..
Floyd gonna cancel due to gloves
Serg stripped of title, and its given to Chavez jr vs a guy that HBO wouldnt let serg fight but they would chavez
Stiverne was a #1 contender,,, who the hell did he beat to get the arreola eliminator..
Wilder is now a #1 contender
Herrera gets no rematch vs danny
Khan is #1 at welter
Peterson fails drug tests, and gets ko'd but still is a champ
Unifications at catchweights
Boxing is so ******, in MMA especially UFC you never get some contender that hasnt fought anyone.. Can anyone really say with a straight face that wilder, stiverne, etc earned their #1 contendership...
Yea cause they air those MMA commercials for free gotcha...the only reason you see them is because the MMA promoters are paying for them period...Boxing promoters are not promoting unless it is a huge fight and even then they are cheap as hell with it
Because Boxing promoters have abandoned network television, aside from the rare half hour special promoting a specific PPV fight.
The model now is meant to maximize their profits, which means pay/cable TV and PPV. This of course means less potential viewers for fights, less exposure for fighters, and the sport as a whole turning into a niche instead of one of the main national past times as it was in the past.
Few people at the top prosper (promoters, a handful of star fighters) while the sport as a whole suffers.
The people running the MMA leagues understand the power of exposure, so they make deals with CBS, Fox, etc to showcase their fighters and not just to promote one guy trying to get as much money in his pocket as possible for one PPV match.
I'm surprised that the fact that most top boxers only fight twice a year wasn't mentioned. Sometimes when you can only cheer for your favorite fighter once every 5-6 months, you forget about him and lose interest.

yup, dont forget interim and "regular" belts lineal diamond "international" belts. lol
i remember before i became obsessed with boxing, i really had no clue about the whole belts thing, i would just see on wikipedia it said they are world champ so i followed that
MMA (UFC) is on big Fox 4 times a year and the ratings are tanking now.
The numbers boxing pulled on NBC in a worse timeslot with less hype proves that the sport could thrive on network TV if given a chance. The point is like always, premium tv will pay much more for boxing. Even the UFC is putting the B draws on Fox and keeping the bigger ones on PPV, and speaking of that they run a monthly PPV regardless of who is fighting, which is terrible for their fans.
The big thing MMA has going for it is they MAKE FIGHTS. If Floyd and Pac were in the UFC, they would have fought 4 times by now. Match ups is what really makes MMA interesting. The best are always fighting the best. In Boxing, it's an absolute rarity when you get two top-tier guys together. It's like a special event. In MMA, you always get the that.
