True, but who not on Top Rank is the fighter the general public wants to see against Floyd?

Khan? Maidana again? Cotto-Martinez winner? Canelo can't even make 154 anymore and casual fans aren't really that hip to Thurman or Porter yet and they wouldn't sell.

I'm interested to see what happens here as well. For those who think we shouldn't be concerned with PPV numbers and finances... These things predicate the fights we get, so they are relevant to discuss.

I'm going with a Maidana rematch. Winnable fight and some people had Maidana close or winning.

I don't know what the replay numbers were...but could be a good indicator after word of mouth got out.

Is boxing in a crisis when the biggest draw of the sport fails to sell even 1M PPVs?

            And Maidana's purse is tasteless.

I hope that happens. The PPV numbers will likely be lower, and then Mayweather will be more pressured to fight a real threat. Maidana is easy money for him, as has been proven to be figured out by Floyd. The second fight will be more one-sided.

GBP and Haymon will match up Khan, who knocked Maidana down and beat him, very well in hopes to sell him as Superman against Floyd in 2015.

Froch vs Groves is a very similar situation to this one and the rematch is much, much bigger than the first fight. Both had major A-sides winning in atougher than anticipated fight, both fights were good to watch and both had a good bit of controversy (some thought Maidana won, plus the glove thing)

I think a September replay would do good numbers

                  Atrocious. Absolutely atrocious.

                  To recap:

This fight barely generated half the ppvs it needed just to break even.

This fight also shows just how much Floyd's ppvs are dependent upon a stacked undercard, mexican holiday and a big "b-side" opponent.

He fights canelo and it draws 2.2 million (assuming its not the 1.8 million which has recently been reported), then goes and fights maidana and all of a sudden his numbers drop by over 60% to 850k.

Clear as day, that 2.2 million was mainly a combination of Canelo, Mexican independence day and a stacked undercard.

With the most expensive undercard in history, this event was a massive failure - no other way to describe it. Showtime and gbp are losing out big time on this, no wonder schaefer's getting fired.

So where are the official numbers?

Also why are there nothing but a bunch of Pacquiao fans talking crap when Pacquaio PPV sales are 300,000 or 200,000 left? That's still a big chunk

My favorite thing to read, is the Mayweather ball-suckers who use the PPV numbers as a reason Floyd shouldn't ever have even considered fighting Pacquiao, let alone fight him now that he's past his prime. Floyd says it, and so do they:

"Why should I give a shot to a guy who only did 750,000 PPV buys..."

So you won't give Pacquiao a fight, and the purse he deserves as the sport's #2 (though one-time #1), because his numbers aren't like yours? Why then do you fight the Guerrero's, Ortiz's, and Maidana's of the world?

Oh, that's right...those guys didn't present a threat, though Maidana almost did.

Do you know how Mayweather negotiates with these fighters? He tells them, "Look, you'll get paid big, and I'll carry the fight so neither of us gets really hurt. Just don't try to get too rough in there and enjoy the payday. I'll build it up by playing the villain, and people will see you as the baby face. Did I mention you'd get paid? Just don't try to force the action."

Unfortunately for him, Pacquiao wanted to prove he was the best during his run from 2007-2011. Pacquiao would have ****ed Floyd up. Mayweather was even on record talking about how he has a family, and wants to be there for them after boxing, how he's got nothing if there's ever an 'L' on his record, etc.

If the do fight any time between now and their respective retirements, it won't matter. It won't be the same, and it won't be an accurate display of them at their best. We had that shot, Mayweather ducked out of it, end of story.
