Because Marquez want the 147 lb. title, not the 140 that Provo has.

It wasn't for a title. It was to determine the number contender to Pacquiao's 147 title.

It's funny but after the steroid acne and picking alvarado over ruslan, marquez is starting to become really unlikable despite being such a good fighter.

You're here pretty much criticizing Alvarado and Marquez reasoning for picking him.
Did you apply this same logic and criticize Pacquiao when he chose Rios instead of Provodnikov? Did you criticize Pac for having a punching bag in front of him ( Alvarado can at least attempt to box) and not even getting a knock down?
IDIOT... LOL... the difference is that RIOS was Pacquiao's 4th choice, clown! Pacquiao called out Floyd, Marquez and Bradley and none of those 3 would fight Manny. Provo and Pacquiao are close friends, they've said they won't fight each other, although they have sparred hundreds of rounds together. They only throw each other's name around as possible opponents to posture and leverage getting the fight signed they want; hence that's how Pacquiao got the second Bradley fight, finally. Alvarado is a stooge, as is Rios. The media has whooped these guys up to be the next coming, and they aren't coming except on each other. Everyone talked how Rios was going to expose Manny's chin. Everyone spouted Alvarado was going to give Provo a boxing lesson. They both got embarrassed, and tonight Alvarado showed why he still doesn't deserve to be any consideration, nor should Rios, for anyone in the top echelon of that division. So do your homework before you go spewing about something you know nothing about, hoping it sticks to a wall somewhere.

I'm sure you hope Marquez KOs Pac again because your hero Mayweather didn't have the guts to try to do it himself...is it blood testing.?..is it the money split?..is it Bob Arum (although he already negotiated to fight with Arum for Pacquiao)?...Oh wait, we know it's Mayweather's health and him being afraid to lose that 0 that he already lost and no serious boxing person thinks is even important or means much...

Floyd-worshipers are forever mad at Pacquiao for destroying Floyd's legacy without even having to lay a glove on him..

Floyd will never be considered a top-5 all time great because of Pacquiao...Floyd fk boy fans are mad LOL

The first time you put both Alvarado and Rios in front of top echelon fighters in Pacquiao & Provo, they both got train wrecked. Now you bring in a 40 year old counter puncher, and it was almost an easy, yet disasterous fight for Marquez. Marquez would not have lasted 5 rounds with Provo tonight. Marquez won't finish a 5th fight with Pacquiao if he wants that shot at the '47 title as bad as he says he does. And he's not going to fight Porter for his share of the '47 title. Alvarado can go away now. He looked horrible, as expected. Provo blew him out in 8 rounds, Marquez knocks him down but gets knocked down himself, and wins a UD. Shows us nothing more than Marquez got dropped by a b/c level fighter.
What's up with the Ruslan hype? No one knew who Ruslan was before the Bradley fight and Ruslan is 1-1 in his two main attraction fights - being unable to defeat a concussed Bradley and beating Alvarado, whom you already decry as terrible and hadn't fought anyone credible. Ruslan still has a lot to prove.

He's 40 yrs old. How was he able to fight at that pace for 12 rounds? Why is he a punching machine all of a sudden? Marquez can hurt any 147-154 pound fighter, all of a sudden. Mike didn't know where he was and said "damn" after that knock down. The way Marquez damaged Mike's face should convince you ******s that he is juicing. Look at the acne on his body, still.
Funny thing is many people were saying the same thing about Manny Pacquiao. People were wondering how a featherweight suddenly was able to fight guys at 47 and 54 and go through them.
I bet you never had any questions then thought right?

And by the way Marquez has always been a punching machine. Guy has been one of the best combination punchers for a long time. Look back at his combination punching at 135 in his fights with Casamayor and Juan Diaz.

What a damn ignorant you are.... seriously just drop that **** about Marquez being on steroids!!!! It's ridiculous. Marquez has proven to be a respectful fighter, a great, disciplined athlete and just a good dude in general. Plus, with all the heat his conditioning trainer has received over his mistakes in the past, the whole boxing fans, media and all have their eyes set on them! They're practically on the spotlight the whole time!! They're not gonna risk doing something ****** like using illegal substances. Seriously come on! You can hate or love Marquez but you can't deny he's commitment to the sport. So just cut that **** off.

Pacquiao better demand VADA testing for Marquez V...between the acne on Marquez' back to the fact that Alvarado was scared to let his hands go...Marquez never displayed this kind of punching power he's displayed lately...funny how Marquez didn't have the combination punching or power when he fought Bradley...and I remember Marquez giving Bradley a hard time with the blood testing...

Pacquiao v. Marquez V with VADA testing make it happen...
