For the people whining about 1.5 million buys expectation being made up...
Mayweather averages in excess of 1 million PPV buys, Espinoza said. That includes a high of 2.4 million homes for the Oscar De La Hoya fight in 2007. Espinoza said he would be "thrilled' if Mayweather exceeds the network's goal of 1.5-million PPV purchases for Guerrero.

There's now more boxing PPV's per year than there's ever been. Last year they had the biggest grossing fight in the sport ever. Pacquiao's and Mayweathers numbers are a little down but that's because of opposition. Boxing would be a lot more popular without PPV anyway. Imagine fights like Mayweather-Canelo on regular TV the numbers would be crazy.

What an idiot. Expecting those numbers doesn't mean they make a loss if it doesn't reach them. Wasn't everyone saying the Guerrero fight needed 1 million to break even? You're are all guessing.

The Canelo fight is the exception, not the rule of PPV...
... Moreover: by staging ****** acts like the "gloves incident", PPV would be killed sooner than you think.

Can you explain how what you just copy and pasted means that Mayweather needs to do at least 1.5 million ppvs to break even or create a profit?

That's deceptive because Mayweather-Canelo was about the biggest fight to make in boxing, and it probably came about In part because of how poorly Mayweather-Gurrero did.

There's not a lot or places to realisitaclly go after that fight to get similar numbers without ending the Cold War.

                  No.

He'll soon get the axe. Non-PPV fights have become rare since he took over. Showtime subscribers are unhappy. Putting all your eggs in one basket is amateurish. He's clueless.

People said the same thing after Mayweather-DLH. I'd prefer no PPV's at all. The more people that watch boxing the better.

It looks like Showtime lost more than $10 Million on this card. That's not good for Showtime's boxing division.
