Comments Thread For: Warren: Saunders-Blandamura Winner Gets Quillin Next

The bout between unbeaten middleweights Billy Joe Saunders and Emanuele Blandamura was already a strong lead-in to the anticipated July 26 rematch between heavyweights Tyson Fury and Dereck Chisora on its own merit. Even more significance is now assigned to the matchup, as the winner will be in line for a mandatory title shot.

"The winner of Saunders vs. Blandamura will be the mandatory challenger for the WBO World middleweight title," promoter Frank Warren announced during a press conference held Thursday in North London. [Click Here To Read More]

I really hope Saunders gets this shot, for he's worked hard to get to title contender level. He won't beat Quillin, though. Not a chance.

Only matters if they order the fight next.

How you gonna twist their arm?

That's sad because Quillin is quite beatable. I thought Danny Jacobs was next in line for Quillin?

          Nope, they're cooking it.

Just realized that Rubio won a "title" so that's why the mando spot is open. If it's anything like Rubio, it's useless... he sat through it for a year being a mando

Quillin is beatable, but I'm not part of the crowd on BS who shits on everything he does just because it's the "in" thing to do. I think his offence is very good but his defence is laughably atrocious for a fighter who adopts a slick style, to the point where anyone with genuine power should eventually be able to crack his chin (which has stood up so far).

However, the guy to do that is not Saunders - this coming from one of his biggest followers on here. At this level, and even at mid/high British level, he just doesn't have the power to end a fight on his terms. He's a great volume puncher and interestingly 'slick' for a white guy, but that won't do him any favours against a fast puncher like Quillin.

Quillin is definetly a top 3-4 middleweight, hes just ducking GGG and would get KOd.

Or maybe Billy joe Saunders just simply isn't a world class boxer?

Warren's pretty tight with the WBO so maybe he can get them to order it. From what I recall though Warren only seems to send guys to the US for title shots if he doesn't think they've got much chance (Jennings vs Cotto, Lockett vs Pavlik). Maybe they'll do the fight in the UK as Quillin was apparently willing to travel to fight Murray, and I suppose it'll pay better than appearing on undercards forever.

Then again Warren does talk a lot of BS so who knows.

See that's what I'm talking about - I'm a fan of neither Quillin nor Golovkin, but it annoys me to see everyone parroting the same old shit. "Ducking" how? If SHO/HBO/GBP can't do business, what else is Quillin supposed to do? Ditch GBP and his belt, become a free agent, jump ship to HBO, breach his contract and get KO'ed by lawsuits like Ward/Goossen? Come on, don't be such a mindless parrot.

Could be the case, man. But at this point he deserves the opportunity to prove himself before any conclusion can be made. If he gets past Blandamura, then he'll have done his work the proper way - British, Commonwealth and European titles.
