For a first offer it was pretty solid when you consider the biggest fight in history to that point yielded about $80 million for the fighters to split up, $100 million would be 25% more which is a huge increase which would be 60/40 which is not bad.


It never got beyond that though, some of the issues people have could have been worked out, and it cracks me up that people think Floyd and Manny would hash out all the details over the phone when neither guy is that good at numbers or English.

It was a good enough opening gambit that it should have been a discussion starter so that the real negotiators could go to work and hash out the details for example making sure Manny is compensated if the fight does insanely well compared to Oscar-Floyd (which was the bench mark at that point).

No one ever mentions that arum counter offered Floyd 50 million and no ppv and Floyd turned that down. Now it's granted that Floyd could make 50 mil+ on any given night but the whole saying is who turns down 40 million but no one ever says who turns down 50 million towards Floyd

Mayweather made more than $50,000,000 elsewhere. It took Pacquiao two fights to sc**** past $40,000,000.

Business wise it was regrettable decision on Pacquiao's part. He ended up losing, and reducing his marketability, for less money.

first off as much as I hate Mayweather, he is an excellent businessman so if he offers 40 million he knows damn well he will make triple that amount himself. I mean come one it would make a ridiculous amount of money and he knows it, thats why he was willing to pay out of his own pocket before even starting training.

The point that is being forgotten is that, from all of the revenues generated, before Mayweather even sees a penny of anything, $40 million comes off of the top and goes to Pacquiao.

Even if the fight did generate $120m in fighter revenues, that gets cut $40m, full stop.

Pacquiao: $40m
Mayweather: $75m-$80m

Basically a 65/35 split to Mayweather, but not all that bad for Pacquiao, if folks want to be honest about the numbers that each guy draws.
