they can try to do a rematch. it might sell a little more but not enough to make up for their loses. there's only 3 guys floyd can fight that will do monster numbers. pacquiao, canelo and cotto. they will lose money on every other fight.

That is exactly what I said earlier. I hope they all lose money. Golden Boy, Arum etc.
So many fanboys on here keep trying to blame Floyd or Pac as to why they did not fight. The reason is they were both too spoiled by their promoters, who kept feeding them every fight as a PPV and making them huge money even for ordinary defenses. There was no huge money motivation for them to fight each other, as they were already making it.
The reason the big 4 fought each other, is because they would make 5-10X more to fight each other, then when they fought other non stars.

Having said that, I'm not confident this figure is accurate and withhold my final judgement until further authoritive figures back this claim.

Despite what BS spin Shaefer put on it that fight did not do 1 million and this fight looks to have done worse numbers.
There's a wide disparity in level of promotions for all three fights, with the Maidana / Guerrero fights nearing in similarity.
I think people will have a clearer idea of promotion for Mayweather's six time fight contract when September comes around. They'll be in full scale promo mode on a scale akin to Mayweather's fight with Canelo.

I just hope people continue to stream fights until PPV numbers become so minimal that fighters will have to duke it out on cable TV for less money where the networks will demand better match-ups and boxing will thrive again. The fewer pay per view buys the better it is for the fans and the worse it is for the promoters and the fighters. It's also better for the cable tv

It matters not. Showtimes backers have more money than they know what to do with. The advertisement and noteriety and showtime subscriptions have more than made up for the marginal losses a failed Mayweather fight may have incurred. Not to mention how the Canelo fight did way better than expected and more than made up for this pseudo 'flop'.
