He was a good fighter. An ATG? Not so fast IMO I can name 100 fighters far greater. He's on a Kostya Tszyu level and Tszyu is hardly an ATG as well imo
On one side of the world, you have people saying Calzaghe ducked RJJ, Toney and B-Hop in their primes but on the other side, it's that Calzaghe never got a chance to fight them because of negotiations falling apart & whatnot. Is Slappy Joe's 46-0 record justified or padded?
Discuss accordingly.
P.S.: He ended up fighting RJJ and Hopkins at the end of his career (as well as dismantling Jeff Lacy & beating Mikkel Kessler), but take that as you will.
Spastics, usually. The sort of people who aren't particularly well informed and those who don't deal in facts. If they did, they'd realise how laughable the notion that Calzaghe ducked Hopkins is.
And when was James Toney even a viable option? Even he's stated that the fight was never an option, and for good reason: he was a cruiserweight and Calzaghe was operating a good twenty pounds below that weight.
Resume not half bad, skills underrated, power overrated.
In my opinion if Marciano can't be looked at as an ATG in his time by most, than why the hell would Joe.
