    Joe Calzaghe: Overrated or underrated?

On one side of the world, you have people saying Calzaghe ducked RJJ, Toney and B-Hop in their primes but on the other side, it's that Calzaghe never got a chance to fight them because of negotiations falling apart & whatnot. Is Slappy Joe's 46-0 record justified or padded?

    Discuss accordingly.

P.S.: He ended up fighting RJJ and Hopkins at the end of his career (as well as dismantling Jeff Lacy & beating Mikkel Kessler), but take that as you will.

Don't forget he beat Bika long before Ward got to him as well

Underrated, had very good boxing ability. It's still shocking how some of the clean punches Kessler landed couldn't even momentarily take away his confidence, nothing ever seemed to phase him.

                Depends who you talk to.

If someone were to say he's an ATG then he's overrated.

If someone were to call him a bum then obviously thats underrating him.

He was a good fighter with good talent and skills with an very poor resume.

To me he is an underachiever. Unlike a lot of people here I rate Calzaghe skills highly but his resume lacks the names to mention him along the past and current greats.

He was a super tough guy to beat because of his style and ring generalship. Him and ward would have been a super fight IMO.

These are great posts... Calzaghe is clearly a great fighter, hall of fame caliber, not an atg, unless your strictly looking at 168... Clearly won of the best boxers of last 30 years, and is top ten p4p since 2000, maybe even top 5

Wins over undefeated Kessler and lacy, beat Hopkins, bika,,,

Paper champ for most of his career but by the end he was the lineal undisputed 168 champ and the lineal undisputed light heavy... Great career, great fighter
