Going by that standard, then Povetkin is probably the only real contender there's been over the last 4-5 years - because he's the only one who's fought other top 10 guys.
But that's the thing...Dimi had a chance to earn a shot. Chambers beat him (and others after). Chambers was a worthy contender. He could have subbed in a couple others, but the recent stay busy stuff has more been a matter of timing while the next wave was getting ready. I mean, Boytsov was in NO hurry to even try to chase Wlad. Sasha ducked challenging him for years. He just keeps rolling. I really do think he's been a pretty solid 'fighting champ' in terms of taking on comers.

I'm not saying Wlad has ducked anyone, because I don't believe that's the case.

Just saying there's a fair bit of contenders he hasn't fought for one reason or another. Probably also has something to do with the fact that some of these fighters fought Vitali and got beaten comprehensively by him.

Wladimir ducks no-one. Why should he? He's head-and-shoulders above EVERY heavy.

With the WBC strap up for grabs, we'll see more contenders go down this route: it's the easier fight.

I agree he doesn't duck anyone, he has no reason to.

But he doesn't always make the big fights because he's a pain in the ass to deal with and you tie yourself for life by fighting him.

Of course, it makes most sense. By having a belt, you put yourself up for a bigger payday as well as little to no options as was proven by Haye.

I'm gonna make believe you didn't say I'm exaggerating the holding cuz that has to be a joke. The holding is excessively excessive. I've never seen anything like it. The weird thing is that the few times I saw him get warned, it was way too late in the fight and either the guy was already too tired from having all that weight constantly on his back or too late to give enough warnings to deduct points.

Let me ask you this, if he fought a guy and he's working his way inside but the guy doesn't bother to make anything resembling a boxing move and just hold and push him down and win, would you consider that other guy a great "boxer" too? Think about that.

Is this era weak, or is it just weak compared to Wlad?

                this is long overdue
don't think Pulev can win but he earned his shot
and at least he can be kinda competitive with Wlad
as a bigger guy, Pulev won't be punked out by Wlad
think this goes 12 with Wlad having some trouble here and there
