Comments Thread For: Wladimir Klitschko vs. Kubrat Pulev Ordered By IBF

Wladimir Klitschko is less than two weeks removed from his latest title defense—a 5th round drubbing of Alex Leapai—yet has already been given his next assignment.

For once, news of a mandatory title fight is good for the boxing public, as the reigning heavyweight king has been ordered to next defend against unbeaten top contender Kubrat Pulev.

I didn't care about Arreola-Stiverne the first time, I sure as hell don't give a shit about the rematch (title or not), but this is the HW fight that matters. Pulev didn't look great against Thompson, but let's face it - who has ever looked good against him? I'm so glad Pulev finally gets his long-awaited shot at glory.

        He'll get spanked though.

He doesn't have the tools to compete with Wlad - but he does deserve a shot.

It's about time. Pulev is big & can box. He has a nice arsenal of punches but i always have questioned his power. Wlad won't be able to lean on pulev nor will he have a distinct size advantage. This is his toughest test he's had in a long time. Does pulev have enough to beat wlad? I'm not sure but wlad has an opportunity to help his reputation as outside his fans he is not as highly regarded worldwide as some think. He gets critism from the boxing writers & fans from all corners of the world from a lack of top opposition. Until the day wlad retires he will not have any excuse for not fighting the best. There is no shortage of challengers now. This is a fight boxing fans want to see. The HW champion being tested.

Pulev is no threat for Klitschko. Pulev hasn`t fought anybody except 42 year old Thompson. Pulev beat Thompson on points, Klitschko knocked him out twice. I was hoping Klitschko fights the winner of Arreola vs Stiverne for a super unification.

Yeah, I'm not holding out for some great HW battle like Bowe-Holyfield or Lennox-Vitali. At the most it should be an interesting fencing match between skilled boxers - but much like Wladimir-Ibragimov/Haye, I'm predicting a lot of tentative non-engagement with pawing jabs aplenty, and everyone bitching and moaning at the end of it. Unless Wladimir holds excessively, I won't complain whatever happens. I'm just happy it's not another Leapai being fed to him.

Great news. Pulev is a classy fighter. I had just hoped Wladimir would fight three times this year, but he probably will not as we are almost mid May already.
