Originally posted by The_Sandman View PostSo about a month ago, I went to my friend's Muay Thai gym, and I was kind of hitting the bag there. A guy walks in, a newcomer. He wants to join the gym, and as the owner/sales guy was showing him around the gym I was listening in their conversation. I could tell this guy had the wrong idea about the sport. He came in with that tough guy macho mentality. "I think gloves are for p*ssies." "Like when I'm in the streets, I crack skulls." So I guess my point is, you're bigger gloves are for p*ssies logic kind of reminds me of this guy. Let me remind you the owner of the gym told the guy "We don't see this place as the right fit for you" and just didn't want the guy to represent the sport. Boxing is entertainment, and to be honest, I'm plenty entertained right now. Why would you want them to risk brain damage so you can be a little more entertained? The guy gets a knock out you're happy for about a day or 2. Then you're back to forgetting about the fight and moving on with your life. While the fighter is permanently suffering.
Is there a link between smaller gloves and serious brain injuries in boxing, if so, please link me the study that was done to prove this.
Thanks.

Thanks.
Anyways, when I'm sparring with head gears and a 16 oz glove, I still feel the impact on my head (and yes it still hurts), not to mention my body as well. If we're cutting 16 oz in half and using 8 oz, with no head gear. I'm pretty sure enough punches to the head is going to effect the pain. Let's not pretend that fighters are slurring the speeches for no reason. This is not the point of your thread though. You are saying there is no difference in brain damage from a 8 oz to a 6 oz. Yet, you prefer the 6 oz because it knocks more people out. So you yourself agree that the impact would be different.

Did you know that the introduction of gloves into the sport vastly increased the number of deaths in the sport?
Do you know what causes serrious brain injuries in the sport.
I spar with 16oz gloves, can't say hurt though. A good body can hurt though., but pain is temporary, glory is forever. Fight through it man.
