Showtime boxing is what it is.. It's not like it's something that's new. Only thing new is that GB made the jump from HBO but all in all Showtime really just doesn't have enough subscribers to ever have spectacular ratings like HBO has but it's still better then pre-GBP and If Showtime wants more viewership they need to go digital and offer online viewing of fights for a small fee that's the future of cable TV anyway..

It's safe to say Mayweather vs Maidana will do well under 1m buys btw... 700-800k range like the Guerrero fight

800K+ viewers for a telecast with Keith Thurman as the main event on Showtime is a solid rating, especially, running in contrast to a major UFC PPV. When comparing Showtime ratings to HBO ratings, there's enough of a difference in subscribers to scale the results; in other words, 1M viewers to Showtime is not the same as 1M to HBO (the amount of money spent on the event also taken into account... this card probably cost well under $1M depending on production costs).

"badly faded Julio Diaz" is misleading... Diaz isn't in his prime, but his ability hasn't eroded to the point that "badly faded" suggests. His success against 2 top 10 Welterweights (Shawn Porter and Amir Khan (although Khan being a top 10 Welterweight is, admittedly, a projection based on his resume) reinforces that position.

Showtime cant build stars, we've known this for years

Thats HBO's world, no matter what showtimes budget is, they will never be able to brand themselves as better than HBO.

Figueroa is far from a big gun.

          Thurman and Lucas, good.

But showcase fights don't get much viewers on their own, those two fights were good for a PPV undercard, not to carry a regular televised event to get 1Mill + viewers.

It doesn't really work that way, Showtime has basically an equal budget to HBO since they basically became Al Haymons personal bank account.

The whole system Haymon has created to get himself and his fighters paid, is going to crash on him, and golden boy. You can't overpay fighters and expect to have a worthwhile profit.

Which Is why golden boy is operating in the red for years now, as soon as a few Showtime execs, start to ask," WTF are paying all this money for?" golden boy and haymon will be in serious trouble.

Jon Jones was fighting that night as well.

I had this past weekend's card DVR'd and didn't get around to watching it until last night.

Showtime can't build stars, but they can steal 'em!

I didn't even know there was a UFC fight that night until I saw it on Yahoo

These numbers are bad but they are the norm for SHO. I think last year they only had 2 or 3 cards that did over 1 million views
