You must do not follow boxing very closely. I wish people would stop making out legends seem like fistic saints.Ali and Leonard did they retire when everyone was in their prime did they fight guys who were shot and old, did they create catch weights or cheat little guys at the scales, did they duck fighters and say they're on steroids or their not a draw, did they say I won't fight him because he has that promoter did they shoot up with xylocaine did they use steroids and HGH ?
There is no world class fighter that has not beaten past prime, former greats.
As far as Leonard, He fought Donny Lalonde for his lightheavyweight belt at 168 and added a newly created wbc super-middleweight belt...Made the champion come down 7 pounds.
Also Aaron Pryor was all risk no reward, he wasnt jumping at fighting him and its documented he avoided him in the amatuers.
When he fought Hagler he knew he slowed down and was past prime, Duran(2) he was far past prime, He probably thought Hearns was finished at the top considering how he looked against Barkley and James kinchen who i think dropped him and waited 7-8 years for rematch. He was no saint.
Muhammad Ali never ducked or dodged anyone, but like everyone else, he fought past prime former greats or contenders...Cleveland Williams was past prime who was at his best in the late 50's, early 60's....Sonny Liston was past prime and no one really knows how old he was much like Antonio Cervantez, Archie Moore was damn near 50, Floyd Patterson was past it the 2nd go 'round.
As far as Mayweathers legacy, he will be elevated as times goes by and more appreciated like Others that dominated their era, like Jones Jr., Holmes, etc.
His legacy is that of a person who was God-gifted but didnt depend on it aND took the time to master his craft becoming one of the 10-20 greatest fighters everComment
