You're the only one I've seen call Maidana a bum...

If you check out the RING welterweight rankings you'll see that Porter and Thurman are ranked above Maidana. It's also a pity we probably can't see Mayweather fight Pacquiao and Bradley (#1 & 2 contenders) partly because of politics. This is also one of the weakest points in the welterweight division in the last decade.

There are also interesting fights for Mayweather at 154, Lara, Andrade, Molina, Charlo, etc. would all make interesting competitive fights.

Also, like I said: Maidana's style is tailor made for Floyd, anyone who knows anything about boxing will tell you this.
Alexander lost to Kotlenik in actuality and has dropped considerably in the welterweight rankings since he and Maidana fought. According to other rankings such as ESPN and boxrec, Maidana is ranked above Thurman and Porter. If you simply look at Maidana's resume it surpasses both Thurman and porter's resumes. I don't see how fighting a top 5 welterweight is a cherry pick.

Maidana may be a good style matchup for Floyd but we haven't seen him in the ring with anybody who possessed an 80% KO ratio in quite some time. Maidana is dangerous for anybody point blank.

I would not rank Maidana as a top 5 welterweight and neither does the RING ratings or boxrec now that you mention their ratings.

Maidana can be no higher than 7 in my opinion: Mayweather, Pacquiao, Bradley, Marquez, Porter, Thurman

Further, as I mentioned there are also a number of interesting match-ups at 154 I would much rather see Mayweather face.

And once more, Maidana is an easy style match-up for Floyd same as we didn't need to see Mayweather v. Guerrero, Gatti, Baldomir, Hatton, etc. to know if the style match-up would dramatically favor Floyd. I would like to see Floyd face someone that can take him out of his element and force him to make serious adjustments mid-fight.

He's a Mayweather fan/serial nuthugger (he has an agenda to protect), they're usually the first guys to call other fighters bums unless their fighting Floyd, then they become undefeated HOF's.

How are Thurman and Porter better than Maidana? He is more proven, in his prime, and on a win streak and about to fight Floyd. Not to mention if he fought either of them he would win. Porter would give him a fight but Thurman would be brutally sparked.

Maidana lost to Alexander not that long ago... and it wasn't even close. If anyone's in a win streak its Porter (who beat Alexander) and Thurman (I honestly don't rate either that highly at this point but it is what it is). Also, the fact that he's about to fight Floyd doesn't make him any better, if anything it might be the opposite...

To be honest I'm glad Mayweather chose Maidana over Khan, the latter would have been much worse even...

Your opinion is meaningless at the end of the day. The fact is Maidana is ranked the 6th best welterweight by boxrec and the fourth best by ESPN. He is a top guy at 147 no matter how spin it. Stylistically Maidana is nothing like the guys you mentioned, he is way more awkward and far more powerful.

Even at 154 Floyd would be favored to beat those guys. The fact is people hold Floyd to a different standard. Maidana would be considered a threat to EVERY other welterweight out there. Nobody would call Chino a cherry pick if Pacquiao, Thurman, Porter, Bradley, and Marquez were to fight him. Its only Mayweather who gets accused of cherry picking when he fights a world champion at his own weight class, which is ridiculous.

Well your opinion is also meaningless and at the end of the day he is ranked #9 by THE RING and #6 by Boxrec, not top 5 as you claim (unless you're in love with Dan Rafael's ranking).

I don't think as many people would criticize Floyd for fighting many of the guys I listed, quite the opposite...

It is true that Mayweather is held to a different standard than others in his division, but that's because he's the champion and the #1 P4P fighter in the world, when you're the champ you have to defend against the top contender or the next best choice.

it shouldn't bother any maidana fan if you consider who is saying it. their agenda isn't a secret.

You can't hold the guy's talent against him. You should hold him to the same standard you hold every other top fighter to.

Ring, Espn, and Boxrec all have their opinions of where Maidana ranks but they all agree he is a top guy at welter and one of the four belt holders. Fighting a top guy at your division, especially a champion, can not be considered a cherry pick.
