Why...are...people...talking...about...this?
It's just Hopkins being funny and carrying on with an interview. They'll take anything and run with it.
I've said it several times before: This fight will never happen, and has no driving factor for it to happen.
Hopkins is NOT, at age 48-50, sweating down TWO weight classes to 160...a weight he hasn't fought in since Jermain Taylor back in 2005.
If that happens, he'll drop dead on the scales. If he goes into the ring, he'll be looking worse than Morales in his second fight with Pacquiao or De la Hoya versus Pacquiao. There's also hardly any financial incentive. Hopkins doesn't exactly have a fan friendly style and doesn't have a rabid fanbase.
If this fight ever gets signed, I'll change my avatar to something worse than what Queen Leia puts up.

If Floyd is able to wrestle that title away from Cotto, I don't see why Floyd defending it or not really is much of an issue … as look how often Mayweather defended his 154 pound belts (no defenses, unless I'm mistaken)
in past Floyd has only fought north of Welterweight for big fights (De La Hoya, Cotto, Canelo)
it would be no different if Mayweather were to try Middleweight.

It's a damn shame Rigo, Hopkins and Ward aren't around Floyd's weight range. It would be amazing to see him in with similarly gifted fighters.
