With that line of thinking, every guy at or near the top is clearly a good boxer. We take that level for granted though, and so we talk about them differently.

It's UNBELIEVABLE how much people take that for granted while they minimize and shrug off countless name fighters who accomplish A LOT. But don't take it for granted. These are world class athletes. There's no myth Paulie's good. He is good and well past it he's at least good.

Paulie has been a crappy boxer for years. He did well against Broner and Judah but that's the exception to the rule. Porter's beat down was like a cat playing with a mouse.

Well said. For years and years, I've been scratching my head at these descriptions of Paulie being a great boxer. That he would cause Pacqiuao, Garcia, Porter, Thurman terrific problems with these great skills.

I guess Paulie said it enough times that people actually started believing it at some point.

He dined out on the valiant effort in the Cotto fight for years, and then got a second life dining out on the performance against Broner, which he absolutely lost (BTW, how bad is Broner looking right now?).

Let's keep it real. The dude has TREMENDOUS heart and chin but he is, and always has been, the definition of average. A slickster with no head movements. He talks about setting traps, about being a cerebral fighter but his style is all legs, jerky movement, hurried offence, and hugging (which he reserves for the better fighters).

He doesn't even do interesting things like other guys with little power - Herrera, Bradley etc. Look how smart Herrera fought against Danny. Paulie couldn't even DREAM of doing that ****. And in return, Herrera wishes he had the high-pitched, loud, verbose verbal skills of Paulie Malignaggi rather than being the quiet dude he is.

If Paulie didn't have a big mouth and and such as profile, his woeful style would NEVER have graced our TV screens as often as it has. As Kenny Porter (Shawn's Dad) said about Paulie before the fight.....it's all smoke and mirrors. When fighter's like him face other fighters who can do the stuff he can, they're lost.

Pauli's alright, he's been mixing with world class fighters for years and normally gives a good fight.

You should learn the difference between a great boxer and a good boxer. Paulie is a good, B-level boxer.

He is a good boxer up to a certain level. However, if you have aspirations at the top level you need to put a beating on guys like Paulie.

malignaggi isn't even a legit gate keeper, a club fighter, maybe even a journeyman at best

He's a solid boxer with decent fundamentals.

People are too hard on Paulie. He's a good fighter.

But I guess if your not an ATG/HOFer or one of the 100 greatest ever your just a bum gatekeeper, huh?

I reckon I could beat Paulie. I would just repeatedly spam him with a leaping left hook which he seems completely unable to defend against until the ref jumps in.

he's a good fighter like zab Judah. not a HOF guy but a very solid fighter. in almost every fight he's in he is outgunned. he has some nice wins. the bottom line is he like zab Judah has a solid fanbase so everyone usually likes to fight him because a good crowd will show & a nice payday to come along with it. it is also a winnable fight. that is why Judah & paulie keep getting big fights. B level but still a good fighter.
