Gotta agree, Calzaghe beat a man who is considered, right at this very moment, some 6 years after they fought, one of the top 3 light heavyweights on the planet. He has beaten Tarver, Pascal and now Shumenov, all champions, all younger. And he has, for the most part, looked good doing it.

Having said all that, the fight itself was atrocious and Calzaghe did not look good, I still maintain, it was such an ugly fight that I would have scored a draw but I understand Calzaghe getting a win due to his activity.

B-Hop was an idiot for making such a remark. That said, just look at the guy...
if you know it was a close fight look at giampas 116-111 scorecard.. that's a sure sign of either emotional judging or loss of faculties.. lol.. in fact loss of faculties isn't impossible because that was one of the last fights giampa judged, he retired after two more fights..

B-Hop made the remark for 2 tactical reasons:
      1. to create public controversy in order to maximize fight sales = MONEY
      2. attempt to rile up calzaghe & take him out of his game plan = STRATEGY

what he overlooked was that the remark could also influenced the white judges to score against him

Not really, but a win over Hopkins does look good now. At the time, people thought Hopkins was done but he clearly isn't.

And anyone who thinks Hopkins was "robbed" needs their fucking head examined.

The win looks better the longer Hopkins goes on, but it doesn't add to Calzaghes legacy but it does mean Joe beat a real ATG.

Hopkins lost to Dawson so that's Calzaghe's first loss. Calzaghe is an all time great in my opinion and his very close win over Hopkins was a huge win. Calzaghe retired years ago. Hopkins is training hard and breaking records at 49 and Joe has nothing to do with that so he gets no credit for what only The amazing Hopkins can do. Maybe Hopkins had an off night when he lost to Joe. Joe had the advantage of being 7 years younger than Hopkins and was not near as good as Hopkins was at his age. By your logic Taylor is better than Joe because he beat Hopkins twice many years before Joe beat him so he gets credit for many more years of Hopkins' wins. Joe retired without giving Hopkins a rematch that would have made both fighters lots of money. Hopkins asked him for a rematch many times and my guess is Hopkins would have won a rematch.

You can crack all the jokes you like but the fact is Calzaghe beat Hopkins and a lot of people blame it on Hopkins being old but now claim hes still great at 49, if hes still great now you have to give Calzaghe the credit he deserves for beating him then.
Hopkins foolish mind games had no affect on Calzaghe either so he tried to fake injury and cry to the ref, it was a sad sight really.
