Comments Thread For: Mike Perez is Training With Adam Booth For Jennings

Mike Perez won't have the services of Abel Sanchez for the biggest fight of his career.

Instead, it will be Adam Booth who will work the corner of Perez for the Irishman's heavyweight scrap against Bryant Jennings on May 24 on HBO, Sanchez told BoxingScene.com on Wednesday.

Booth is training Perez in Ireland fight the bout, Sanchez said. Sanchez usually trains Perez in Big Bear, Calif., but Perez had visa issues and could only come over to the U.S., three to four weeks ahead of the fight.

I bet Abel called him a sissy to his face trying to spark that fire back in him and he just couldn't take it. He softened up tremendously after the Mago fight, perhaps he felt like Abel's intent to put that killer instinct back in him was a tad disturbing / uncomfortable.

I wish him the best of course, I understand his situation and I can respect it.

Why didn't Sanchez go overseas to train him? This is a huge fight for Perez.

Dang so it sounds like it was just a scramble to find any available trainer, or do Booth and Perez have a history, anyone know?

Adam Booth pays a lot of attention to the mental/psychological aspect of boxing. If Perez needs his head straightening out after what happened with Mago, Booth could be a big help to him in that respect.

I actually believe Booth could be a better trainer for Perez than Sanchez.

Booth is an overrated trainer. I don't like this move but it appears Mike has no other options.

I'm guessing Sanchez won't move because he has to prepare GGG for his next fight.
