    Great post by the way.

hopkins benefitted from a late start in boxing, a stoic lifestyle that lends itself to a long career, and a boxing style that similarly lends itself to a long career. as his body changed, his style changed. drugs aren't all that i'd credit for his long career.

i'm not going to discount the possibility that hopkins is on the gear. as i've said before, i think they're all on drugs.

None of those wins on their own come anywhere near the best wins ever, but to beat all of them and unify a division at 50-51 would be one of the best things any fighter has ever done.

why? because stevenson beat a shot dawson coming off of getting his ass kicked by the prince? what else did he do?

and kovalev? i like kovalev. what did he do? beat cleverly and sillakh? he punches hard? because he beat sillakh and cleverly and punches hard we're calling wins over them great simply because hopkins is old?

liking a fighter isnt' enough to give wins over them that sort of historic value. what's most important is who you beat and what he had accomplished at that stage, not your own age. you're giving the wins a disproportionate amount of value because of hopkins age. those two wins wouldn't be one of the greatest accoomplishments in boxing simply because of hopkins age. you reserver the greatest accomplishments for actual great wins, and those aren't them.

Why are you putting words in my mouth? I'm not calling any of these fighters great. I'm not saying that beating them are great wins.

The point is that to beat them both and unify a division at Hopkins age is something no one has ever done, which by definition is historic. You can pretend that age doesn't factor into the importance of a fighter's accomplishments if you want, but you'll be in the vast minority about it. Sometimes there is more to a win than the fighters involved.

when did i say hopkins doesn't get some credit because of his age?

i'm saying it's not enough to turn wins over stevenson and kovalev into something that rivals duran's win over ray leonard in their first fight.

I'm not saying it's point blank the greatest either. But I can't imagine it's not among the greatest accomplishments a fighter has ever managed.

Reminds me a lot of what an elder Holyfield hoped for before the realization of age set in.

Hopkins is a legend for the sport already...

... I don't want to see him failing lamentably into the ring...

so sounds like b-hop is aiming to fight stevenson and kovalev down the line.. if he beats them both is he the greatest of all time?

                    don't believe him

Bhop isn't even the best of his era in that weightclass, RJJ is.
He has surpassed Roy Jones Jr. in accomplishments.
