Mayweather, El Perro, Cotto, Martinez etc....

So to all of a sudden take a fight with Lara, who two years ago only hardcore boxing fans knew who he was, would have been dumb business sense. Idiots don't get that and call out "ducking", or "he's scared".

Boxing at the end of the day is a business. You have to do what makes the most money. Canelo is a cash cow and you need to bleed his career for every penny you will get, because in boxing, tomorrow is never guaranteed.
Good points. Is it really a big deal that Canelo is likely going to fight Lara at age 24 instead of age 22 1/2.

Posters just don't seem to like Canelo because he is popular with his fanbase. WHat a great reason not to like a fighter.

I'm pretty sure that everybody here knows that boxing is a business, what with the way everybody here counts their favorite fighter's PPV numbers and fight winnings every other week.

It's just only a business decision when the decision to wait for a fight to build more comes from their favorite fighter(s).

If you dislike the guy? Well then he's a ****ing cowardly ducker, right?

It's a business and a sport. There's a balance between the two. Abandon the logic of one half and the other half dies as well. It's not business above all. If it was it would look like WWE. Since it doesn't we must assume that the rationale of competitive sport still has power and can't be wholly dismissed with the 'boxing is a business' line.

I don't think they know in the least. They detach the PPV numbers with what it takes to actually make a fight. I would bet you 95% of posters here have no idea what a promoter, manager and trainer do. They get their jobs mixed up CONSTANTLY and think one does the job of the other.

Let alone what a cable channel like HBO or Showtime have to do to even stage the actual fight. They think Mayweather says "I want to fight _________" and Showtime is like "ok masta, sounds good masta"

Doesn't work like that. They invest and want a return.

Dr. Rumack, it's a business above all else, I know because I'm in it. You don't make fights because they are good, you make fights because they sell and will make people tons of money.

It's the reason Chavez Jr makes more money than GGG and he isn't half the fighter. Boxing is a popularity contest and if you get the perfect mix of great talent AND charisma (like DLH), then you have the golden goose.

Canelo is the Golden Goose right now, and it's the reason people hate him, or love him. It's not his fault that he's been propped up, it's on the fans and managers. Everyone wants a piece of him, it's because he will make them the most $$$. The same with Mayweather, everyone from 168 to 130 wants to fight him, because it's like winning the lottery.

It's a business first, and sport way second.

I really dont get the whining from either side. As a boxing fan its a great fight between two very good fighters, just let it happen.

                    Canelo fans are the worst.

They justify everything he does, "didn't make weight bc it wasnt a title fight"
