Anybody else think it's a bad idea for a July 12 PPV for Canelo?

    Anybody else feel this way?

HBO has been holding back due to their lack of shows. Only had 2 shows in March and their last one didn't really cost too much. Now a bulk of their attention is falling in May to about July

They have a show almost every week after the Mayweather fight.

    May 17th - Marquez/Alvarado
    May 24th - Perez/Jennings, Macklin/Geale
    May 24th (showtime) - Stevenson/Fonfara
May 31 - Two overseas shows (Groves/Froch II), Macau card with three FW champions (Donair, Vetyka, Grandovich and Walters).
    June - 7th Martinez/Cotto PPV
    June 14th - Provo/Alegri, Rose/Andrade
    June 21 - Nothing yet
    June 28 - Nothing yet
    July 5th-nothing yet
    July 12- Proposed Canelo/Lara PPV
    July 19 - proposed JCC Jr/GGG PPV

As of right now, HBO is pushing hard those 3 months while HBO has nothing on the board.

Those three weeks were there's nothing scheduled yet is when the FIFA 2014 world cup is taking place. It actually starts the 12th of June, so the Provo double header will be near the beginning....but don't know if anybody else will make fights to compete with the World Cup and use those Saturdays to build up their fights with 24/7, All access and fight replays.

Then, the whole issue of moving the proposed GGG/JcC Jr fight a week because of the Fifa finals being Saturday and Sunday. Don't know what time the games usually start, but if the games are at night, this time it's in Brazil and only an hour time difference from the East Coast

HBO has all those shows to build up each of their fights one after the other.... actually starting this Saturday with Pac's fight against Bradley. HBO are already trying to promote their other two PPV's on the show and trying to get the other fighters to attend.

Does anybody else feel this way? HBO is going to be having a lot of momentum those three months.

as for whether would buy it, mexican fans are loyal to their fighters.

It is what it is,if he has such a huge fan base as people were saying he does then the others are the ones who need to change their dates not Canelo

It is.... can't wait for that.

Along with those HBO fights, there's the Sturm/Soliman rematch. Don't know if it'll be shown, but Fortuna is back too

Might be tough cause casuals will be tired of buying PPV but it will outsell Chavez fight. Hopefully they change both to regular shows

6 PPV's in 5 months is a bad idea for all the parties involved. I think most are going to end up flopping

PPV's in HD go for around $70... That's gonna be over $400 worth of PPV's in 5 months. People are not going to be spending that much money on fights. It just isn't worth it

Yea, their plan though was for July 26th initially.

Canelo Alvarez isn’t taking much time to celebrate his recent win over Alfredo Angulo, as the young fighter is already back in the gym preparing for his next bout.

A week difference doesn't sound like a big deal, but it'll be on the same day as the Fifa third place match and the week before another PPV, one that wasn't being discussed when they first planned it

Also, he got 350k with one of the best possible opponents for a PPV fight, Angulo. He beat him down and it got everybody hyped. I like Lara, but it's going to be a hard sell.

I guess they should just roll the dice and hope people bite

Canelo has a solid following and it doesn't matter what time or days other fights and sporting events land on. As far as FIFA goes, there's a reason June is damn near empty... The Canelo date, I don't think, will suffer.

Truth be told, the bulk of these fights are in May. I really don't see how that'll even put a dent in terms of interest for Canelo-Lara

Its a bad idea for it to be ppv. The fight is a good idea.
