Duva will block Stevenson/Showtime deal and enforce previous Kov-Stev agreement

Lol @ the suckers who swore this fight will happen no matter what so long as "the money's right" for Adonis, even after signing with Haymon
This is one of the clearest, well-planned and thought out ducks in boxing in the past 5 years.
The whole situation is hilarious and very sad for boxing fans. You're robbing a legit contender to create his own legacy and challenge and win a lineal title.
Oh well.... Don't complain when people call Kovalev the best LHW!Comment

And somehow you see it as team kovalev that's in the wrong...Comment

Im not so sure about that.
1) Main Events/Gym/HBO reach a verbal agreement documented in emails that HBO will air Stevenson-Fonfara then Stevenson- Kovalev
2) Gym/Haymon run to Showtime and get a bigger offer for Stevenson-Fonfara and ask HBO to match it without assurances that they'll fight Kovalev afterwards.
That right there would be them violating the previous agreement asking more money for the same fight while going back on the second part of the original deal.Comment

This is why I call Stevenson a duck. If HBO is willing to air your fight with fonfara so long that you're willing to face off with Kovalev in the fall, why would u not agree to the Kovalev fight? If HBO is going to Invest in building u up, why would u try and wiggle your way out of the fight that everyone wants to see?Comment

Stevenson/Kovalev was the biggest potential fight of the year. It needed to happen. I really like this move by Duva. I'm not sure if it will work but it sets a precedent.
Stevenson has been pimping HBO for the last 6-9 months. Both men were being built for a potential showdown with each other.Comment

I just can't see how this holds any water, and I'm fully on Kovalevs side. HBO basically broke any deal by not matching showtimes bid. Showtime by law now has rights of refusal for Stevensons fight after Fonfara.
People can be hopeful but 100% nothing comes from this.
It's a long shot, and I wouldn't normally be in favour of this kinda s#it, but ME and Kovalev do have a genuine greivance (and more selfishly, I really, really want to see Kovalev and Stevenson fight).
Kovalev had no reason to fight Agnew except as a stay busy waiting for the Stevenson fight and not only that, but got screwed late on in negotiations by Agnew suddenly doubling his asking price (I think around the time the Haymon signing broke) - resulting in Kovalev taking a hit to his own earnings.Last edited by Citizen Koba; 03-28-2014, 08:03 AM.Comment
