Murat was his mando though.....Hey Richard, wasn***39;t Showtime the network that had no interest in Hopkins-Kovalev just a few months ago then put on Hopkins-Murat instead?

wait....what's that?
Murat hadn't fought in over a year and was made mando after Kovalev vacated his mandatory position in favor of a WBO title shot?Comment

Yes, it's a better offer for the Fonfara fight which could have been a more lucrative Kovalev fight.
Moreover, Schaefer has confirmed in this article that Showtime are working on the winners of Hopkins-Shumenov and Stevenson-Fonfara facing one another. You think they won't make that part of the contract?
We all see what's happening here.Comment

It makes sense, HBO saves on money (of which I hope they plan on using on something good) and Showtime get another unification fight at LHW.Yes, it's a better offer for the Fonfara fight which could have been a more lucrative Kovalev fight.

Fonfara/Stevenson was only in place as a build up for the two to fight each other. Without a guarantee they'll fight each other, there's no point in paying for Fonfara/StevensonComment

Murat was the mandatory first but he was denied a visa to get into the U.S. That's when Hopkins was ordered to fight Kovalev instead...but after some negotiations Kovalev opted to face Cleverly for his title.
At that point Murat got his paperwork in order and that's when he fought Bernard.Comment

That's speculation on your part. HBO said today they are still interested in Kovalev-Stevenson so to me that indicates its still possible.Comment

You don't find it weird that he was the mandatory after not fighting for a year?Murat was the mandatory first but he was denied a visa to get into the U.S. That's when Hopkins was ordered to fight Kovalev instead...but after some negotiations Kovalev opted to face Cleverly for his title.

We'll probably hear in the coming days, but the tone of this release from Stevenson's promoter would tend to indicate that it's probably not just a one-fight deal with Sho: http://www.boxingscene.com/stevenson...howtime--76017
...or it could be HBO making sure boxing fans know they didn't turn the Kovalev-Stevenson fight down, i.e. they weren't to blame, because they were getting a lot of heat.HBO said today they are still interested in Kovalev-Stevenson so to me that indicates its still possible.
All speculation as you say, time will tell.Comment
