HBO should have signed these deals long before Stevenson signed with Haymon. They were building for a Stevenson/Kovalev fight and they should have signed a deal were there would be one more fight and then fight each other months ago! They should have had this in the bag, and not wait 2 months before the fight with Fonfara was to take place to decide they didn't want to pay for it.

I can't blame Stevenson for asking for more money. He's 36 and going to probably lose to Kovalev. He is going to want to get compensated after getting decapitated.

Maidana has earned a Mayweather fight whether you think it's a mismatch or not.

Al Haymon is the government and everyone that signs with him is just looking for a handout.

I get it. I get why Adonis doesn't want to fight Kovalev. It's a very difficult fight, very high risk, and one IMHO, he gets knocked out in. So from his perspective, why risk that, when you can get the same money fighting 84 year old Hopkins?

But fans don't make a dime off the fights, so we can only view from a fans perspective. You've got a phenomenal fight here between two guys who had great 2013, pack tremendous punching power, and were on an inevitable collision course.

Then one of them gets cold feet. Says he would make easy work of this other dude. Who is this other dude, anyway? He's got 12 fans. He's ugly. Easy work. Pay me the money.

The other dude tells him to shut up and fight.

First dude signs with Al Haymon.

I understand Adonis has to do what is best for his life. But then he must also realise that he loses huge credibility in the eyes of the fans if he doesn't have the requisite fighting spirit. Kovalev wants to make money too. And you make it best by taking that terrifically risky fight for all the marbles.

If in Floyd's case it's about really big money here's not about money -- it's about running for one's life.

My agenda is totally different from theirs.
EXACTLY my point! you watch it bc its a sport. Us as fans should care, first and foremost about the best fights getting made. If something is going to hinder that _ then Im not in favor of it - as simple as that. Like you said, you make not one cent off these fighters - so isnt it in your best interest (your enjoyment) to see Stevenson v Kovalev. it seems that Stevenson doesn't want to fight Kovalev - thats why myself and others on this forum are a lil pissed

HBO still has some good options without Stevenson. Kovalev vs Ward, Kovalev vs Pascal, Kovalev vs Froch/Groves winner at a catchweight, Kovalev vs Chavez Jr. If Stevenson chooses to fight Hopkins or Froch on Showtime, he will make less money than he would against Kovalev and, if/when he loses, his chances of getting a big money fight against Kovalev will be over. Stevenson is tying the noose around his own neck and I say good riddance!

I'm board with you claiming that Stevenson was intentionally ducking Kovalev by strategically signing with Haymon which is ******.

But Adonis would make much more money for Kovalev than he would Fonfara, so why did he choose Fonfara instead. Does Stevenson hate money?
