Solis is the most talented Cuban behind Rigo. More talented than Lara and Gamboa. Which makes this loss painful because he's that good.
I watched some of his amateur fights the other day and I've haven't seen someone his size who had such amazing footwork. I mean the best footwork from a heavyweight I've seen in a long time. He was 200 lbs in the amateurs. He's heavier now and he can't use his legs as much. Plus he had surgery on his knee.Comment

That's a big statement. I always felt it was Gamboa behind Rigo. Solis was possibly third, in my opinion. I've never been crazy about Lara, although I support him. None of it matters now. The guy finally proved, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that he's never living up to the slightest glimmer of hope in him. No knock on Thompson, but the truth is that Tony is old and slow. What top heavyweight is Solis ever supposed to beat now?
Solis blew it all away though.Comment

He isn't beating any top heavyweights, he barely beat a Norwegian strongman two fights ago. A waste of talent.
By the way, when you said Gamboa is the best Cuban behind Rigondeaux, you meant among Cuban boxers who turned pro, right?Comment

Talents are natural gifts. If you say Solis is more skilled than Gamboa, I won't argue with that; but talent is not learned, skills are. Rigo just happens to be not only talented, but highly skilled.Comment

I've always held Solis in very high regard when it comes to his boxing ability, but never shared the majority's sentiment about his condition being detrimental to his career. Today it slapped me like a ton of bricks as he was bested by 42 yr old which he needed to beat. Curious to see where he goes from here.Comment

Good thinking, bro. I stopped having real hope for Solis even before the Vitali fight. Although I expected him to beat the 42 year old Thompson, I preferred, instead, to head over to my neighbor's house for a barbecue. I'm glad I "missed" watching this embarrassment losing to Tony. I can only feel bad for someone that tried and fell short, not for someone that's pissed away God-given talent. Gamboa is hovering precariously over that same cliff.Comment

I always felt Solis had certain potential although being physically challenged. He struck me as being able to beat most not named Wladimir. I was wrong obviously.Comment
