  • Hatton tried the exact same stuff on Floyd, only Hatton was a faster boxer than Maidana, more combos and a better inside fighter

So what chance does a slow plodding midget stand is above me

    • He won't get the chance. Mayweather doesn't give you the opportunity to throw that many punches.

      • I remember before the Canelo fight, a lot of people predicted Canelo would hurt Floyd to the body and TKO/KO him. After the fight, those same people were saying Canelo wasn't ready and was a 'cherry pick'.

So my question to those picking Maidana by TKO/KO, how much credit will you give Floyd if he wins by any means?

Devon Alexander and Floyd Mayweather are not exactly the same kind of fighter. The only similarity they have is that they both like to hold and clinch on the inside in order to prevent their opponents from getting their punches off.

Other than that, they are two completely different stye of fighters. For one Devon is more of an offensive fighter who actually does throw combination punches but also clinches often as well.

Floyd on the other hand is more of defensive oriented fighter with a very limited work rate, who typically likes to throw and land single punches and counters at a time; Especially from a distance. Like Devon he also likes to clinch on the inside too. He hardly ever put successive combination punches together for fear of being countered himself because he doesn't like to get hit and is too defensive.

          • Damn, it seems like Maidana is the best fighter ever, in this thread. Let's see what happens. I say he gets stopped.

This happens with every Floyd fight. The people that can't stand him, talk up crazy things to make themselves believe. In the end, they are playing with house money and can simply say that Floyd was supposed to win in the end. However, if Floyd were to lose, hell, a legit knockdown is a victory in their eyes. Adrian Broner and Floyd Mayweather are two different fighters. Everyone that gets in the ring with him says that he hits harder than you think he does and that gives them pause for coming in because they know they will have to give a few to try to get a lick on Floyd. Floyd UD12 or KO9.

If not for anything else, the legs are still there for Floyd

              • I am surprised nobody mentioned controlling distance.

Among the many advances, Floyd has a reach advantage and a much better jab, Maidana has to work into range before throwing.

Floyd imo could win this fight just by controlling distance (jab) and move, clinch when necessary and wait for a flat footed Maidana to get either tired or reckless, and then start to land his right hand.

Unfortunately for Maidana Floyd has a good lead right and can also mix it up if he wants. I expect Mayweather to start landing more combos late in the fight, 1-1-2 , 1-1-3 and and 1-1-6 kind of combos.
