Cotto was talking about moving up way before Sergio was even was mentioned. He beat Chavez Jr so Sergio was the obvious choice. Even with no injuries Cotto fights him. These are excuses being lined up by Sergio for when he loses. Blame the injuries.

PACQUIAO said he would fight if Martinez came down to 150* not Mayweather. Mayweather actually said it would be an honor to fight for the Middleweight championship but never mentioned anything about weight and noone believed him anyway. My point was that Cotto expressed interest and whether or not you believe that from an interview is a whole different debate as I said before.
I did mean 2012, my bad. that still doesn't take anything away from the point I just mentioned: cotto had the opportunity to face martinez at any given time and chose to fight him now that he's at his most vulnerable. don't get me wrong I truly believe that right it's as even and competitive as it's ever going to get...but if cotto wins he'd better defend it against someone legit

I cant click the link. I saw an actual video of floyd discussing it during the Guerrero buildup and saw a video with Roach saying 150 for Pacquiao. Its also quite possible that mayweather changed his tune though, because Pacquaio did the same aswell when Martinez called his bluff and then said it had to be at 147 which Martinez then laughed and just ruled out any potential pacquiao fight noting hes just too small.
Oh in that case I totally agree that he could have fought him at any given time, but he still had big fights at 154 and its not like he made the decision to fight martinez in a heartbeat. He was really still considering staying pat and taking the Canelo fight but martinez adds to his legacy and Cotto's time is ticking. I can see him fighting Quillin to defend the title but thats about it.

Point being, Cotto never ducked this fight. This was perfect timing for both guys, as it's already March and Sergio is still wearing a knee brace. Cotto off the Trout loss against Sergio doesn't sell nearly as well as it does after he demolished D-Rod.

He won and dominated, but began to show the wear and tear of years of prizefighting. He needed an extended layoff to recover and didn't return until April of this year, getting injured again and needing more time off. Cotto then got his win over D-Rod and here we are.

There wasnt much of a window for them to meet and it was perfect timing for them to meet NOW. If you remember correctly Martinez originally planned to fight Murray and eventually rematch Chavez for another big money fight.. point im trying to make is they wernt really "eyeing" eachother at no point up till a few months ago when the possiblity of the fight became a reality

Wow, Sergio is really milking this fake injury. First, he used it as an excuse for a horrible performance. Then, he used it to duck Triple G. Now he's using it as an excuse for a fight months away lol.
Sergio will never be a star because he ducks big fights like a possible fight with Andre Ward or Triple G to fight C-level fighters from the UK or call out smaller fighters.
Sergio will probably call out another smaller opponent again if he gets a gift decision against Cotto like Trout did.

Trout beat Cotto.
I had to get that out of the way.. I agree with most of your post though. I question the legitimacy of the injury Martinez suffers from. If it was THAT big of a deal... retire, but if you are going to milk the game dont ***** about it and keep bringing it up and using it as an exucse thats when you look pretty lame. Its like Kobe bryant playing through an injury and blaming his poor perfomances on it.. meh.
Dibella has FINALLY addressed the Martinez-GGG fight and stated if it was 2-3 years ago Martinez would have a chance but at this point of his career, GGG is too much for Sergio.. so bring on the Welterweights and Junior middleweights lol.

Miguel Cotto is not good enough to move up and box the big guys who actually are good. Trout prove this and he is not even in Martinez's league. Cotto is going to get beat down badly. He had to look up to Sergio at the presser. Roach gassed Cotto up.

why is he fighting then if he's injured?
sergio isnt being honest here.
Just go ahead and say cotto is finally fighting me now that im old and washed up.
I was on sergio's side because of cotto's b*tch ass request to walk last despite not being champion but this is some whack ass **** as well.
stop insulting our intelligence sergio.

The walking in last thing was all mind games. Aside from him wanting to have the momentum of the crowd from when he walks out, till the bell rings instead of them cheering, then booing and then cheering again. BUT I believe it showed who really needed the fight more and it was Sergio, and he knows it and hates it and thats why hes so worked up about it. Cotto could walk away and wait an extra month and took the Canelo fight July 26th... Martinez had no better offer on the table. Sergio walks away and then then the demand of a GGG fight surfaces yet again.. he knows Cotto is one up on him from the negotiation table and mentally.Last edited by MrP4P; 03-15-2014, 03:06 PM.
