With Alfredo Angulo set aside and IBF champion Carlos Molina facing serious legal troubles, former WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez is facing a severe drought of possibilities for his next appearance, which tentative for a date of July 26th. WBA 'regular' champion Erislandy Lara (19-1-2, 12KOs), who defends his title against Ishe Smith on May 2, is emerging as the strongest candidate.

After Canelo stopped Angulo last Saturday in Las Vegas, he was confronted by Lara at the post-fight press conference. Lara openly challenged him before the press.

Please just let it be Lara. Canelo isn't ducking him but people swear he is. Let them settle it in the ring. A very even fight to me. Honestly there's no one else at 154 left. The only other fights that are acceptable would be Cotto Kirkland and Molina. But they won't happen in July. So that leaves Lara.

I believe Canelo duck lara due to the way he answered without any intention to fight. His lack of interest is the problem.

Yea... They considered Lara as an opponent before too. Then come to find out that wasn't true. -_-

The way I say it is, theyre using his name to promote Canelo. I'll believe it when the fight is signed and sealed.

I don't get it. When are they gonna fight if Lara is supposed to fight in may and Canelo is coming back in July.

If Canelo-Lara is possible for july then why is Lara fighting Ishe? It's not like people want to see this fight anyway.
