Since that Josesito Lopez "fight" (if that's what you want to call that disgraceful event), his opponent selection has been good. I didn't mind the selection of Angulo coming off of his first L and the Trout fight happened at the right time.

He's doing a good job of removing that protected gifted media hyped cherry picker label. But that label will not be completely removed unless he faces Lara at some point in 2014. Blowing up some welterweight contender like Schaefer mentioned in this article will only make matters worse.

Schaefer. That's the key part of that sentence. In fact, it was he who didn't want the Trout fight either, it was Saul who pushed for it, realising the negativity that was brewing already about the cherry-picking (which WAS happening pre-Trout). And it would be lovely if Canelo pushed for the Lara fight too. But I doubt Schaefer will get pushed into another fighter he doesn't want by his fighter - the Broner-Maidana debacle taught him that.

Whether the cherry picking label goes or not doesn't really matter. But what does matter is an objective look at his last 3 opponents and how favoured Canelo was going into each fight.

I couldn't believe the wave of Angulo picks last week. He might even have been the favorite. Shocked me quite a bit.

Surprised me too. People got so hung up on the notion that he knocked down Lara that they thought SURELY he's gonna put away the flat-footed ginger.

In reality, Angulo looked really bad in the Lara fight and got busted up terribly. Still a difficult fight for Canelo because it was the first legit heavy-handed 154er he was gonna face but nothing about last night surprised me, aside from the blazing, audacious start from Saul (which was tactically a brilliant manoeuvre).

When Canelo asked in Spanish who wants to see Lara-Canelo fight the only asnwers was SI (YES). I never imagine that so many Mexicans champions will be afraid to fight once they have a good opponent
