I would disagree a bit. He definitely benefits from the name, bu he has begun to earn his spot-1st with the Martinez performance lte and then this past weekend.

He can't be completely trusted to be a professional in and out of the ring yet, but he does make for good TV.

Maybe having a kid made him realize its time to stop bull****ting around.

I agree about Mayweather, Ward and Rigo but guess what, if you aren't coming out of pocket to watch those fighters, then you can't be mad when they don't get coverage.

Fans always want to see certain fights, but for FREE......hahahaha

It takes money to put on shows, I don't know if you knew that. If you want boxing to give the Lara's and Molina's of the world more coverage, then come out of pocket so the promoters can make the show happen.

If not, you have no right questioning anyone's fandom.
I watch every fight. I subscribe to HBO and Showtime solely for boxing. I order a fair share of PPVs. And I attend fights when I can. I also can appriciate all styles of fighting. To me, any so called fight fan that can't appreciate technical fighters isn't a true fight fan. If you just wanna watch brawls. Go to your local bar on "live boxing" night and watch two fat f.ucks slug it out until one collapses from exahustion. And leave the high level of fighting to the real fans. I find it ironic that if you look at most credible P4P lists. Floyd, Ward, Rigo, Wlad, and Bradley are on all of them. And most lists have at least four of them in the top 5. S if you have no desire to watch the best fighters in the world. That's your right. But don't call yourself a real fight fan. Because you're not.

        They learned from Rigo-Flash.

Look, I do admit that he got his start in boxing because of his name, nobody can doubt that. You aren't giving him any credit though and that's also unfair.

He isn't his father, but he's no bum skill wise. He has a good chin, is tough, and can punch. Now, he has had issues with his training and work ethic, those can't be disputed but you can't say that he's just getting recognition because of who his daddy is.

That can only carry you so far. I think Jr can fight, he is a fighter. I dont think he's great, and I don't think he's going to be a legend in the sport but he can make some exciting fights. He almost beat Martinez, he is always in exciting fights, and isn't scared to stand and trade.

Like I said, we need to be fair in his criticism.
His name has given him a sphere of influence, and favoritism that he doesnt deserve and has also protected him. He has been protected, given a free belt, given robberies, helped avoid drug test, clearly uses/used drugs, allowed to come in 13 pounds over weight, etc. If he was a guy who had to work his way up, he would have losses to Molina, Zbik, Sergio, Vera, all while never even beating an actual top 10 fighter.

His last 2 fights before sat he was scared to stand and trade in boring fights. He has 2 KOs in his last 10 fights. Jr and his career so far is a joke, fed on a sliver plate like almost nobody else while other fighter get fcuked over for him

What exactly did he do in the martinez fight? Land 1 punch in the last 1:50 of the fight and Knocking him down? How about the first 34.5 mins where he did nothing? Or how about the 1st vera fight where he did nothing, and got a horrible robbery win as well? Chavez is a silver spoon fed, drugged up bum and people's opinions change on him just because he beats a top 20 MW at 168 after just clearly losing to him?

I used to like chavez and hoped he would do well but its almost sickening how his benefits at the expense of others

Just like with Chavez-Golovkin, where most likely golovkin will be favored to beat the bigger star?

GGG beating chavez would be like like foyd beating gatti-the fight is being made not for the ppv star to win but to guage how the buying public will respond to a fighter on the way up in his first ppv fight.

Ward beating chavez/ggg would be like Rigo beating Nonito-future business is hurt because the bigger star gets beat so thouroughly that it raises questions whether they are as good as advertised.

I don't disagree with you, what I disagree is that you question people wanting to see exciting fights. I made a thread called "Are fan being dumbed down" making the exact point you are making.

While I agree because I'm a hardcore fan, we can't dismiss the excitement that brawls bring to the sport. Most casual fans want to see those, than some technical fights. The fact is, we are not coming out for the Rigo's and Molina's of the world, we are paying for the Rios vs Alvarado fights instead.

So the question is, who is to blame?

I'm not disagreeing with you, and you make valid points. I just think your being way to hard on him.

He was out of shape, he wasn't scared to ****, he just didn't have the cardio for it.

I think Jr can give us some good fights, if he comes in shape and takes this sport seriously.

Lasting 11 rounds against Martinez is nothing to scoff at. He took some hellacious shots for 11 rounds and kept coming.

People will still watch him, but the elasticity to pay for Chavez isn't what is used to be. Half as many people actually paid to seem him fight in the Aladome compared to when he fought Rubio. I don't think he'll translate into good PPV numbers anymore for the same reason. Similar to Hopkins in a way despite good ratings.
