Comments Thread For: Salido-Lomachenko: Examining The Scorecards

Vasyl Lomachenko has only lost two boxing matches ever — one in his amateur career, and now one early into his pro career, after his split decision defeat to Orlando Salido on the undercard to the Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.-Bryan Vera rematch.

The sole scorecard in Lomachenko’s favor came from Levi Martinez, who had him winning 115-113, giving him 7 of the 12 rounds — rounds 1, 4, 5, 7, 8, 11 and 12.

Yup Yup, everyone who seen the fight scored it as a Lomachenko lost, he was lost in the fight. He had no balls to try anything.

To fight Salido in your 2nd pro fight take balls. I thought it was a mistake to take this fight on Lomachenko part. But I still was impressed by Loma I didn't think he would make it to the 12th round let alone almost stop Salido in the final round. Granted Salido wasn't in great shape for this fight but it was still impressive.

Agreed on all counts. Salido was a gamble, one I wouldn't have taken. I guess the Lomachenko camp believed their own hype. But Vasyl acquitted himself well. He'll learn from this experience and come back better. He'll own a belt at 126 soon enough.

dude is special you guys are just haters, probably racist too. The guy rallied and almost beat salido in his second pro fight. The odds were stacked against him, size, the referee and dirty tactics yet the dude never *****ed or complained. He doesnt want to be protected like most fighters out there, so haters go suck a **** and cheer on more protected fighters

Even the Lomachenko camp said Vasyl isn't ready for Rigo. They picked Salido because they regarded him as a relatively winnable fight. In that sense, they were right. Salido won the fight, but he missed weight (possibly intentionally) and outweighed Lomo by a significant amount on fight night. Clearly, Lomachenko's handlers underestimated Orlando, but they weren't that far off.

A lot of people are hating on Lomo because of the hype and the preferential treatment, but everything you said is true. The kid may never live up to the hype; but what he did in only his second pro fight is impressive, even in defeat.
