I've read all the stories and comments. Whilst racist in the kinda fairly banal and casual way that many slavic and mediterranean peoples are in their discussion of blacks in their own language and communities - there's nothing to suggst Kovalev is any more than a normal Russian working class guy reflecting the opinions that you'd expect.

The term 'racist' is highly loaded and open to many interpretations - what Kovalev is clearly not is some kind of flag waving white-sumpemecist black hater as it seems you're trying to suggest by presenting his comments out of context and in an inflamatory manner.

Was he naive in talking unguardedly to the russian boxing press (and in pissing off Shumenov fans) - hell yeah - anything you say can come back to bite you on the ass.

Incidentally - the 'n****r' comment was from 3 years ago, and was aimed at just one person - Grover Young, the guy who cheated his way to a draw and cost Kovalev his perfect record - in the circumstances I think Kovalevs anger with him is understandable. Which would you say is worse - cheating someone out of potential future earnings or the use of a racial epithet in anger?

I also notice that you fail to mention where he specifically recognises there are good and bad people of all races in the same article.
