The poll could have been a way of giving something to Khan (exposition + consolation prize) after he lost the fight. The guy was losing all the independent polls and now at least he can say he won the MW poll and would have deserved the fight. He needs to rebuild his name and this is useful.

While I understand where you're coming from, I don't think the poll was serious at all. In fact, it would be the first time in the history of the sport if an opponent who won a poll actually got a fight.(Gotta check to see if a poll was ever used)

Adding to that, what boxer other than Khan would actually feel entitled to a championship fight simply because he did win a poll (Do anyone here realize just how crazy that sounds ).

Maidana took the best approach to that polling nonsense -- "Fuck the poll, let's setup a fight between Khan and Maidana."

While Maidana could care less about polls, Khan went all in, contacting everyone he could to get a vote. Still with all that, he still only beat out Maidana by about 5K votes ....... Which is sad numbers for someone who believes he can fill a stadium.

I'd assume he's getting a nice sized check to step aside and let "Big Bro" get this easy money. Plus, he's gonna get a spot on Floyd's undercard. Maybe against a soft touch at 140. But personally, I think Peterson is the perfect fight. Far from a gimmie, but a winnable fight. And if he were to win, that puts a belt back around his waist. And for the casuals, all would be forgiven. Because he can dismiss Maidana as, "I was too small for the welterweight division." And it would set up a big fight Garcia later this year.
