He should've been the trainer of the year since he took over Jr's training. The problem for Roger is that many people feel like his own nephew hasn't given him the credit and people see Floyd as a great because of his talents and not many people look towards his corner as the reason for his success. Roger if he was less blunt and a bit more polish would've and should've won. He hasn't,it's one of those things in boxing that falls under what any individual perceives. I don't think Floyd is this good this long without Roger honestly. When people refer to Floyd's greatest attribute they say "His defensive genuis"..that pays zero compliment to the trainer that got him there and keeps him there.

So is this really about other people deserving it or Garcia being butt hurt it wasn't him. I'm pretty sure if any of those names he mentioned would've won the award he would've been just as pissed. The acknowledgement of other trainers was solely so it wouldn't be a me,me,me fest. I agree with you on the Julio Diaz thing hence the last line of my OP "One can make the argument for guys who didn't lose to Roach in 2013".
Because he should have won and it's unanimous among fans. Boxing is not a sport like MLB, NBA, where players don't show their true emotions towards other players on the press and if a player felt he deserved MVP, he would just say cong**** to the player that did win it and move on. In Boxing, fighters are honest and if they don't agree with something they will say it.

It's not what you say it's how you say it and there in lays the issue. You have a problem don't just react, gather yourself and pick your words wisely. He didn't and came off looking and sounding bitter IMO but it is what it is. It's ok to be mad and get upset and speak up about stuff but articulate it so it doesn't become a self serving rant.

I saw the interview, didn't see one tear leave Garcia's eyes.

Honestly, it would probably be impossible for me to care less about boxing awards. Because IMO, they're more popularity contest than anything else. I basically used the Roger comparison because you seemed to penalize Garcia because he lost head-2-head with Roach in Pac-Rios. My point was, a trainer shouldn't get credit for his fighter beating an inferior fighter. Likewise, one shouldn't be penalized for losing to a superior fighter. Now, I'm not talking about inferior/superior in the way Floyd's haters like to talk. To me, Floyd-Canelo isn't an example of superior vs inferior. They're two top level guys. Floyd's just great, whether people like or not. When I talk superior vs inferior, I mean what will be taking place in Floyd's next fight. Khan is clearly not a top level fighter at the moment and neither is Maidana. So if the trainer of the year came down to Floyd Sr, Hill, or Robert. I don't think Sr gets the nod over either based solely on him beating them head-2-head with a clearly superior fighter.

Roaches fighter win fights they're supposed to win, Garcia's wins fights they are not.
I'd say this, all of this.

Not choosing sides but maybe Roach won because of Ruslan's fight with Bradley. Even though he lost it was a hell of a fight.. then he bounced back with a win over Alvarado.
Then Cotto bounced back from two straight losses, goes with Freddie roach...then he bounced back with a win over Rodriguez.
Manny Pacquiao has two straight losses... then he bounced back with a win over Rios.

Zou Shiming has been winning since his pro debut.

That's a lot of fighters and a lot of fights he was dealing with that year, so maybe that's why he deserves to be trainer of the year.

Angel Garcia only has one fighter and it's his son... How hard can it be to train ONE fighter and it being a family member, your own son.. compared to training 7+ fighters and at least 4 of them being a household name.

Same with Floyd Mayweather... how hard can it be to train one fighter and it be your son.

To me Robert Garcia is the only other trainer who deserves trainer of the year he has nonito (even though he doesn't really train him for the whole camp), Gradovich, he has his lil bro Mikey Garcia, has Brandon Rios and Marcos Maidana.
