Manny Pacquiao has two straight losses... then he bounced back with a win over Rios.

Zou Shiming has been winning since his pro debut.

That's a lot of fighters and a lot of fights he was dealing with that year, so maybe that's why he deserves to be trainer of the year.

Angel Garcia only has one fighter and it's his son... How hard can it be to train ONE fighter and it being a family member, your own son.. compared to training 7+ fighters and at least 4 of them being a household name.

Same with Floyd Mayweather... how hard can it be to train one fighter and it be your son.

To me Robert Garcia is the only other trainer who deserves trainer of the year he has nonito (even though he doesn't really train him for the whole camp), Gradovich, he has his lil bro Mikey Garcia, has Brandon Rios and Marcos Maidana.
They could've won those fights self trained at this point. Cotto and Manny were predicted by almost everyone to easily dismantle those guys, bouncing back against stiffs isn't really bouncing back to the forefront. Zou is an established amateur winning 4 and 6 rounders, the training again isn't a huge part of that.

If Cotto came and beat Martinez in 2013 and Pac beat Bradley or JMM in a rematch in 2013...sure either of those might get you the nod but....come on. Also like was stated...Freddy barely trained Provo for his win vs Al and did train him for his loss vs Bradley.

    I agree Freddie shouldn't have won...no way.

Itīs a blatant act of racism. Roach is a great trainer, but so is Garcia and the latter deserved the honor.

One could make the argument for people that didn't lose to Roach that year.
so based off one fight you would give TOTY to roach over garcia???????? that would be one weak argument. i never saw where roach deserved TOTY over manny stewart or roger/floyd sr. roach is an incomplete trainer. his fighters defense suck butt, and he is unable to change strategy during the fight. all roaches TOTY awards were given because of pac. roach should have NEVER GOT THE AWARD OVER EMANUAL STEWART!!!!!!!!! anyone who says otherwise is deluded.

this quote is not cool at all!!!!!! you cannot use a sweeping generalization to describe any nationality. the racism leaps off the page and it is just not cool and makes you look bad/silly.

Roach was busy training Cotto for 10/8 and went to China for Pacquiao. Roach's assistant manned the remainder of the camp and fight week.
It doesn't really matter, does it? Roach is obviously very busy, he has his assistant there for those kinds of situations. You should possibly consider how difficult it may have been training his assistant so well, as he seemed to be giving Provodnikov good advice throughout and got good praise after the fight for his work.

My point is in essence that Roach's assistant is still being tutored by Freddie, so whatever good work he did is reflected well back on the main coach, so your point could even be seen as a positive for him, as he's able to coach effectively in multiple areas.
