This is what one would think every Floyd fan would want him to do...but instead some attack it.

I believe Mayweather is coming under serious attack here. He is the most gifted defensive fighter of his generation and has a list of names he has beaten that many would die for. Yes, many of those fights may have an asterix but so do many other fighters. I understand he isn't everyone's cup of tea and I certainly would not rank him as the best of his generation but he is a great fighter. We can't, as fans, always have everything. It's important to fight the best and Mayweather is limited in that regard but so was Tyson and Vitali...and Roy Jones and Vitali Klitschko and the list can go on.

Maybe it is the young Mayweather's claims that he is the best that get so many riled up, I don't know but I often feel he is treated quite harshly.

He is treated harshly simply because he is avoiding the fight we all want to see. He's got fans that are so desperate to join the money team that they come out in every forum willing to get on their knees and get busy.

He's not fighting Manny Pacquiao because of Bob Arum. Hmmm...okk after all the drug testing demands he will pull out the Bob Arum excuse. Okk I can let that slide.

But then you hear him talking about how Pacquiao is 1-2 in his last fight so he won't fight but then picks a skinny guy name Amir Khan who has no ppv record, no belt, no chin, no nothing and then call himself TBE.

I truly believe he needs to retire if he's not fighting the best fights out there.

Roy Jones Jr., Vitali Klitchko and everyone else fought every best fighter that they could.

I understand what you are saying and I am a life long advocate of the "best fighting the best", which is rare in the modern age of boxing. I, like many fans my age, probably still dream of the days of Ali and Leonard, that age will probably never come again.

Having said that, neither Jones nor Vitali fought all the best available opponents, it is established knowledge in boxing. In fact, in Roy's heyday, when I will still covering the sport professionally, one of the major talking points was why had he not fought fighter A or fighter B and what would happen when he did.

Beating Pac wouldn't make him the best ever.

I agree. Taking this route you cannot be the greatest ever.

I've been watching boxing since the 80s. There are very few fights that didn't get made that should have. Floyd has just as many in his career than the entire boxing world does in three decades. He brings the criticism upon himself with claims of being the best ever while refusing to fight the best possible opposition.

I still think if Floyd beats Manny then beats Sergio for the middleweight crown after he wrecks Cotto then he will be considered an ATG. Not even close to the best ever but definitely by far this generations greatest and maybe a top 10 ATG...skills wise there's no doubt but he missed out on way to many fights against guys in their primes to give him the nod right now. IMO of course..
